How did your activities and research for this International Schools CyberFair Project support the standards, required coursework, and curriculum standards? |
Learning Areas of Language Arts |
Whether visiting the Mayor of Changhua and the members of CCCO or designing questionnaires, we must constantly modify our text and selected appropriate words. The oral expression ability during interviews and the composition of short articles by summarizing the data we collected, listening, speaking, reading, and writing, all reflected our daily accumulation of language proficiency. |
Social Learning Area |
It was a valuable experience to know about the organizational structure of and contact with a government authority through the Music Director, the Executive Secretary of CCCO, Ms. Li of the Social Affairs Section of Changhua City Office, Ms. Chi, the Mayor’s Secretary, and the directors of the Chinese orchestra clubs of the elementary schools. |
Arts and Humanities Learning Area |
Traditional music is the quintessence of our tradition. It was a lifetime experience to enjoy the live performance by CCCO and play the musical instruments in person. |
Information Education |
We used office software to edit the data collected, used image editing software to process the photos we took during the interviews, reflected the differences of our research subjects via pie charts by surveys statistical software, and finally presented our work by a website through website production software. Through this experience of the CyberFair, we greatly enhanced our skills of software. |
Team-based Learning, TBL |
Our team had ten members. We proceeded towards the same goal, the completion of this Cyberfair project, from disagreement, to continuous exchange of views and consensus. During all the interviews, we knew clearly that we represented Shiou Shuie Junior High School, so we paid special attention to our words and deeds. We'd like to thank our teachers for their help. We are extremely touched and grateful to see the completion of the website. |
Internet Learning |
In the conception of the content and structure of the Cyberfair project, we surfed the Internet for information and award winners’ works over the years which could not be found in books. No wonder people praised Google as being almighty. Not a few creative ideas were inspired by the review of others' works on the Internet. We learned deeper and broader knowledge through the Internet. |
Current Education System |
Through this Cyberfair project, we found that learning could be very different. Instead of learning in the classroom, we went outside to expand our visions. We knew the mode of operation of government agencies and talked with the Mayor at Changhua City Office, which were lifetime memorable experiences. We also knew the group of people who loved music and took time out of their busy schedules every week to practice music together. The existing education system seemed to make students forget what their interests were. |

In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person? |
In order to accomplish this Cyberfair project, we called Mr. Chun-yen Huang, the Music Director of CCCO, Mrs. Shu-wei Li, the Executive Secretary of CCCO, Ms. Li, of the Social Affairs Section of Changhua City Office, Ms. Chi, the Mayor's Secretary, and the teachers of elementary schools in charge of Chinese orchestra clubs. We modified the interview questions and the content of the questionnaires through emails. The support and encouragement by many people during the process motived us forward. I remembered that Mr. Yi-hung Chang, the Conductor of CCCO, said that CCCO held a public performance every six months, each with 12 pieces. In average, they had only two weeks to practice one piece. The members had their works on weekdays and were not full-time performers, so they cherished every chance of group practice. During our interviews, we were touched by their concentration on practice. I hope that we could contribute a bit through this Cyberfair project and make more people become aware of and enjoy traditional music. |
4. What has been the impact of your project on your community?
Through this project, I not only knew many Chinese music instruments, but also learned that wonderful music was produced by the constant efforts of many performers, which proved the old saying that ten minutes on the stage took ten years of practice by the performer. In the future, in order to have good achievement in any task, besides teamwork, we shall rely on our constant practice to success. Many CCCO members were students like us. They stuck to their interests after class, which we should learn from. Most of us killed our free time watching TV, surfing the Internet, and playing PC games and forgot our interests by the excuse of heavy academic load. |
5. Intellectual Property Rights
The content of this Cyberfair project, the information related to CCCO, and the photos of performances and CCCO members were provided by the Changhua City Office, while the questionnaire data of Chinese orchestra clubs were provided by the elementary schools. We had asked the relevant units to sign the Power of Attorney so that we could use the data legally. We also added the details of sources of the photos on each web page. Thank you all for your enthusiastic help! Most of the photos and web page content were made by our teammates. |
6. Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises
Before participating in the CyberFair, we did not have the experience of completing one task through long-term cooperation. Through the meetings, discussions and visits over the months, we deeply understood the meaning of teamwork. During the process, we experienced the milk of human kindness from the enthusiastic responses of CCCO members and the feedback provided by the Chinese orchestra clubs of Chung Shan Elementary School, Ding Fan Elementary school, Hai Pu Elementary School, Jing Siou Elementary School, and Yong Jing Elementary School. Moreover, it was an unforgettable experience to visit Mr. Chian-fu Chiu, the Mayor of Changhua. The dribs and drabs of the process were our great discovery and surprise. |
