Analysis of The Questionnaires
By analyzing the questionnaire data of the six questions, we boldly make the following conclusions.
Conclusion 1 |
Most of the members of Chinese orchestra clubs of elementary schools are third, fourth, and fifth graders who are the main force of the clubs. And it is common that few students in sixth grade join the clubs. The reason why there are more sixth graders who join the clubs of Haibu Elementary School and Din Fan Elementary School is because that their adjacent school, Lu Ming Junior High School has traditional music class which provides students chances to learn traditional music after entering the high school. It is supposed that if the junior high schools students are to enter have Chinese orchestras or traditional music classes, it will be helpful for their clubs to recruit and retain members. |
Conclusion 2 |
The Chinese Orchestra clubs of Yongjing Elementary School and Jin Shou Elementary School recruit first-grade students. Though they have only a few members, students have longer time to learn traditional music and lay solid foundation as they are introduced to traditional music since first grade. Most students of Zhong-Shan Elementary School join Chinese orchestra clubs in third or fourth grade. They can attend contests and have good performance after practice for a short time. From question No. 5 "Comparison of the number and proportion of the students of the five elementary schools who have one-on-one class with their teachers to enhance their playing techniques after class", nearly 40% of the students of Zhong-Shan Elementary School have one-on-one class with their teachers to enhance their playing techniques after class, which is the highest in the five clubs and may be one of the advantage of the Chinese Orchestra Club of Zhong-Shan Elementary School. |

We survey and find out
It is found that the percentage of students of schools located in urban areas who join Chinese orchestra clubs is relatively low. For instance, the percentages of the students of Zhong-Shan Elementary School, Jin Shou Elementary School, and Yongjing Elementary School are between 2.5% and 3.5%, while nearly 40% of the students of Haibu Elementary School have joined the traditional music association. We can clearly see the differences among urban and rural schools. Schools located in urban areas have larger scale and more faculties and funds, so they have more diversified clubs which enrich the choices of their students, which reduce the percentage of students who join the Chinese orchestra clubs. In contrast, elementary schools with smaller scale and limits in faculties and funds can only set up limited clubs, which increase the percentage of students who join the traditional music association. In short, each school has its unique geographical environment and cultural background but same love for traditional music, which produces different strategies and patterns of development. We hope that our questionnaires can present your different experience in the development of clubs by schools. |
