Summary Supporter Keyman Activities Experience Us Project

Secondhand Goods Donation

After we heard that Immaculate Heart Center for Mentally Handicapped was going to set up a secondhand store which is called XifuHin. We decided to invite classmates and parents to donate some secondhand goods to participate in this event.

Under our homeroom teacher and our passionate invitation, the next day morning, we saw many of my classmates’ hands holding large bags and came inside the classroom. We were very surprised. The students’ enthusiastic participation was more positive than we expected. Over a few days, the big box which was used to place those goods was full of toys, books, dolls, and so on. So we took these goods to Immaculate Heart Center for Mentally Handicapped.

We went to the Immaculate Heart Center for Mentally Handicapped to donate the goods.

Vice-director, Mr. Lee was surprised that we were so eager to help them raise useful goods and thanked us. He took out a piece of paper and asked us to sign on the top. That's the receipt. Mr. Lee explained to us the reasons for holding this event were as following:

 • 1. We want the disabled students to experience selling goods.
 • 2. We want to train the disabled students to have the ability of making a living by themselves.
 • 3. We want to develop their independence, and self-care.
 • 4. We want to let them be able to adjust to the social life.

A few days later ( Jan. 3, 2014), XifuHin finally opened. We followed the address (No.87, Sec. 1, Lucao Rd., Lugang Township), and found XifuHin. We visited XifuHin, and bought a few products which they sold.

We found that XifuHin not only provided the disabled students a sheltered workshop to learn more, but also supplied us a second-hand store to buy stuff at a lower price. Also they advocated the concept of recycling, reusing, and reducing. It was very green.

Although the concept of environmental protection has been circulated in the community, we preferred new things to old ones. The second-hand store also evoked the importance of environmental protection. The disabled students also learned a lot from it. Mr. Lee and the administrative staff of Immaculate Heart Center for Mentally Handicapped certainly paid a lot of efforts. Even though recycling idea has been well promoted in our country, people are usually fond of new things. The activity held by Immaculate Heart Center for mentally certainly serves as a reminder to us about the importance of being environmental friendly. The goods at the store might not be brand new, but they are full of the kindness from the donators, just like the motto on the poster “Pass on the Goods, Pass on the Happiness”
