Project Narrative


Project Elements

  1. During the process of our study, we integrated our study with Grade 1-9 Consistent Curriculum as follows:

Curriculum

 

Language and Arts

After each event and interview, we wrote down our work content and reflections, sorted study information, practiced interview skills and distributed questionnaires. Thus, our planning, conceiving, expressing, reading and writing abilities were enhanced.

Mathematics

We calculated the necessary cost for the implementation of the study. We planned events under the circumstance of limited money. We analyzed questionnaires, gathered statistics, and presented the results by charts.

Integrative Activity

We obtained social resources, visited and interviewed people with proper manners, and built up the abilityof integration.

Science and Technology

Through Internet searching, using digital cameras and making the post-production, using a computer mind map, and creating our team blog and web pages, we explored related issues and presented our study results. We also cultivated the ability to use technology and information in our daily life.

Social Studies

Through the study, we cooperated with Meinong Primary School, and learned to coordinate. We recorded Hsu Sheng-Ming’s life and his unfinished dream. We appreciate and care about everything, and would like to further our appreciation and put our knowledge to work.

Arts and Humanities

We designed team logos, pins, e-books, cards, and gift packaging. Our rich imagination was triggered. We enjoyed the pleasure of creation.

Health and Physical Education

We are able to use our physical strengths to make field investigation and engage in proper exercises. We also develop a healthy attitude towards our life. Finally we practiced Knuckleball.

3.Roles

Q: How does your research change your community?

A:

  1. 1.         Invoke community to memorize Hsu Sheng-Ming and turn it into support.
  2. Based on the results of our questionnaires, we made a proposal and submitted suggestions to relevant organizations.
  3. We get public attention and support by doing a thing for Hsu Sheng-Ming that was we collected 999 signed leaves for him.
  4. Through an activity on  the EDA-RHINO fans website, more Taiwanese remember “Coach Hsu’s sprit”.
Q: What distinguished you from the others?

A:

  1. Take the initiative to interview with EDA-RHINO professional baseball teams, Meinong Hakka Cultural Museum, Meinong School Association.
  2. We sent a proposal made by our studies and research to Mayor Chen, and we got respond.
  3.         The campaign we held, “Make Taiwan Baseball Endless and Blooming!” has gain about 3000 responses in EDA-RHINO fans website.
  4. Show “Coach Hsu’s sprit” in schools, and let more students know about him.
Q: Did you make new local connections?

A:

  1. We got encouragement and affirmation from EDA-RHINO professional baseball team, Meinong Hakka Cultural Museum, Meinong School Association, and Education Bureau. Kaohsuing City Government. They expect us to promote Coach Hsu’s sprit to our classmates and Taiwanese.
  2. In future, we will provide our research to every exhibition of Hsu Sheng-Ming.
  3. We spread Coach Hsu’s stories, preserve the cultural relics, and show his sprit to more people through the web. In addition, we win glory for our community.

 4. Impact

Cognition 1.     We visited the baseball company, and acquainted their office and gym. 2.     We understand coach Hsu’s life and his persistence in baseball. 3.     Although the distance between downtown Kaohsiung and Meinong is not long, every activity took up one whole day, so we felt tired in long term. We finally found out school strategic alliance is a good approach. 4.     To plan an exhibition is not easy. We need to make arrangements and volunteer planning, prepare contact, reveal news, market.
Affection 1.     We learn a lot from interviews with Coach Hsu’s parents, neighbors, his wife, Xie Rong-Yao, Professor Gu, and Coach Huang Jiong-Long, 2.     Everyone in the team is important and irreplaceable. In the process of doing the Cyberfair project, we got supports from children, assistance from teachers and parents, and encouragement from uncles and aunties that we met at the first time.

Skills

1.     We learned effective questionnaire implementation, statistics, and chart presentation.

2.     We learned qualitative interviewing skills, information summary, and analysis.

3.     We learned how to submit opinions to government organizations, how to speak out for the public, and how to benefit the community.

4.     We learned how to act as competent community ambassadors to promote the interests of our community.

5.     We cultivated our communication, coordination, organization, and integration abilities.

6.     We learned how to do case studies and how to make web pages.

We conceived and created our webpage design, the pictures we used, and the contents by each member of our team individually. We took heritage photos on site. Coach Hsu’s photos we used are from Hsu Sheng-Ming’s biography for which we will mention their origins. All rights reserved to our team.

  1. Discovery, Lessons, and Surprises
    After more than four months of hard work, we realized:
  2. We understand Hsu’s passion on baseball and his love to his family from his biography and friends. We also know his effort on making the fundamentals of baseball take root in Taiwan. In Addition, we learned Coach Hsu’s “baseball spirit”.
  3. We learned interview, inquiry, and summary skills.
  4. Through our teamwork, we made some efforst on Hsu Sheng-Ming Memorial Exhibition.
  5. Through an activity on  EDA-RHINO fans website and other activities, we invoke people to support baseball.
  6. We do something “Make Taiwan Baseball endless and blooming!” for Coach Hsu.
  7. We conducted a survey to submit the result to government agencies for their reference to guide future promotion and improvement efforts.
