PS. Grandma Don use Taiwanese to have conversation
with us. She can speak a little Japanese.
Q: Did you come here because of marriage?
A: Yes. I am 80 years old now. I have many grandsons. The oldest one is just like you. (pointing to our teachers) You guys are even younger.
Q: Do the streets change a lot ?
A: Yes. The houses become old. There were Japanese stores in the past. There were many Japanes as well.
Q: Did you have a job in the past?
A: No, I was a homemaker. I needed to do the laundry and cooking. I had to go far to buy gloceries.
Q: Were there many Japanese?
A: Yes. I don’t know what to say........(Smile~)
Postscript: Grandma Dong is 80 years old. She is kind and sweet. Although she cannot make the move smoothly, when we talked about the history, we can tell her passion from her eyes. We took a picture together at the end.
Students’ opinion
(Yi-Jun) Maybe because grandma is old, her voice is small. Teachers help us understand what she is talking about. However, I think she is very cute.
(Lun-Ya) I asked her questions in Japanese. When she heard Japanese, I can tell her interest.
