Afterthoughts of the Luffa Vanguards
Through our research, I gained profound understanding of the running of Guang Yuan Liang Co., the cultivation of luffa and the production of luffa water. Even though the research was grueling, our teachers kept on encouraging us that hard work pays off. We learned so much from Mr. Shih’s personal wisdom and life experiences. We also learned that the seemingly dreary luffa was in reality a very versatile plant. All these are things we would not have learned had we not participated in the luffa research project. These are the biggest reward from our work. – I-shan
What I remembered the most were the luffa soap making and the subsequent charity auction. Proceeds from the sell were donated to Heart For Africa Taiwan. The donation helps children in Africa to have a safe water supply. With that in mind, I hawked the luffa soups the best I can. I hope goodwill can reach to those African children thousands of miles away. May they grow up in a safe and healthy environment. ---- Hui Juan
When I was selected to interview Mr. Luffa - Mr. Chung-Guang Shih, I was curious how the project will turn out. Later on I learned that a lot of preparation was necessary even before we get to the interview stage. Every step along the way presented new challenges. But our teachers would not have given us this task if they did not believe in our ability to complete it. I strived to do my best to make my school proud. My biggest reward was learning to convey my ideas to others. I also learned to write in an articular manner. Once I start working, I can communicate confidently with my superiors. --- Yu-han and Jou-yu
This year’s Cyberfair project was fun but also hard work. Even though we had to sacrifice our lunch break, we gained so much knowledge from taking part. So the hard work was well worth it. Our luffa research introduced me to different luffa species. It also made me appreciate the wide range of application that can be derived from a single fruit. From the stem to flower, each part of the luffa fruit can be used. This is truly amazing. --- Hsin-I
At first I thought getting involved in the Cyberfair project would be easy. Little did I realize the amount of work awaiting me. However, knowing that the fruits of our labor will be available for the rest of the world to see thorough our website made it all worthwhile. Thru this journey, I have gained a lot of knowledge about luffa water. Furthermore, we were able to donate the proceeds from the charity sale of hand-made luffa soaps to aid African children. It made me feel that my participation in the Cyberfair project was truly rewarding. ----I-lin
This is my first time ever participating in this event. In the beginning I thought it was just for fun, but now I know it is no easy matter. Several times I wanted to give up, but to see everyone else working so hard strengthened my resolve. We encountered many difficulties on the way. But thanks to the teachers who assisted and guided us, I was able to complete the Cyberfair project successfully. --- Chiu-hua
Though participating in this Cyberfair project, it made me realize that doing a case study is not that easy. In addition to the field interviews, we had to gather information and organize data. It took a lot of time, but fortunately with the help of fellow student and teachers, we were able to complete the case study. During this time, I was able to absorb new knowledge, master new skills, gain a new perspective, and meet new people. Despite the grueling process, I remained buoyant! If given the opportunity again, I will continue to take part in this type of research. ---Hsin-hao
I gained a great deal of knowledge by attending the Cyberfair project. It has given me lots of firsts in my life; for instance, presenting publically for the first time, conducting interviews for the first time, conducting surveys for the first time, and compiling and organizing data for the first time. I am very pleased to have been able to participate in such an event. It allows me to acquire knowledge through hands-on experience. Lessons learnt in this way are far more dynamic then learning from a book! ---Chien-hua
The field research was strenuous. I was nervous initially but still feel that overall the process was fun. From conversing with Mr. Shih of Guang Yuan Liang Co., I cannot help but admire his ideas and his persistence. I also learned much from the philosophy that he shared with us: we are here to be discouraged, to suffer and to be educated. There is much that I need to learn from him. The interview was very interesting, but organizing data and creating web pages afterwards was no fun. However, I still feel that participate Cyberfair project was worthwhile. ---Pin-yu
There have been many stories since we worked on our Cyberfair project for months. Sometimes we encountered difficulties; however, we tried to solve them together. We worked on the Cyberfair project during break time at noon; thus, we felt sleepy in the afternoon. However, by Cyberfair project, we acquired knowledge and learned to make the webpages.
