The participatory guarantee system (PGS) used by Be Good House is a system of guarantee by participation method. This method of guarantee is adopted from the European Union. Its concept is based on a third-party testing system providing reliable guarantee to consumers in search of organic foods. The farmers and the consumers are encouraged and asked to directly participate in the testing of products. This method involves finding people, such as consumers, other fellow farmers and experts to go a farmer’s farm and check if the environment, the products’ appearance, the smell, the water and the soil conform to standards.

　Most people rely upon authentication from the ‘Expert System’to get information on products. But often times, there are differences in perceptions existing between the experts and the consuming public from their different standpoints, causing the consumers to be dubious about the products which in turn, creates trust and reliability crisis. Take the popular organic farm authentication ensign as an example. Although it guarantees the quality of products through scientific, objective verification system by a third party, and it also increases its credibility with multiple statistics, in reality , between the manufacturer and the consumers, the consumers still take on the role of someone who is just ‘being informed’. If we are to be one hundred percent reassured, maybe the soundest way is by multi- participatory system.

　Trust is the basic policy in this participatory guarantee system, which also means that it is built on mutual trust. It is founded on the principle of being open and transparent, and it decreases exploitation and administrative interference. It starts from the basic ecological nature of approaching agriculture, by not using chemically-synthesized pesticides, fertilizers or genetically altered bio-products, to promoting social justice by actively supporting the livelihood of the farmers and sustaining it.

　Through participation, the manufacturers can re-assess their own values and those of their locality. The consumers can also better understand where the products are made, and even get to personally experience the environments that produce these organic farm products, what techniques are used in their cultivation and how they are produced. All the procedures and exchange of information are open and transparent, which in turn, can build a solid foundation of mutual trust, re-establishing contacts between the manufacturers and the consumers.
