 ˘i Description of Our Community:

Our school locates in Taipei city and itˇ¦s also one members of an international city in this global village. The convenience of public transportation and excellent educational environment so that there are many local people come to Taipei to complete their dream of future. The combination of modern and traditional culture makes local peopleˇ¦s culture to become one feature in Taiwan.

 ˘i Summary of Our Project:

Lin An-Tai Old Homestead is located in Binjiang Park which is close to Binjiang Elementary School. The house is a traditional Chinese courtyard house with elegant decorations and is one of the few traditional houses preserved in northern Taiwan. The Lin family came to Taiwan in the 18th century and engaged in trade in northern Taiwan. With the money they made, they built a house and named it. Today, the house is over 160 years old. It is the best-preserved and maintained ancient house in Taipei City.

Lin An-Tai Old Homestead is famous for its delicate carvings; one of the examples is the creative dragon carving on the front door. There are six dragons, representing the six sons in the family. The carvings of vases and bats carry the meanings of good luck, wealth and safety. Some of the tiles and bricks of this ancient building have been restored due to its long history, but the stones and woods have remained intact over the long years. The crescent shaped pond in front of the building was used for defense, raising fish, prevent fire, water supply and keep a moderate temperature.

It's a pity that rarely do people pay attention to this historical site, so we decide to make it a project to make more people to know more about it.

Problems

How we overcome our problems.

˘i Students donˇ¦t have enough time.

Students in Taiwan have to go to cram school through Mon. to Fri. Thatˇ¦s why Students have little time left. So we apply for a free sky drive and a blog for students to upload data or materials little by little.

i. We divide this project into many small parts and combine them into our curriculum to overcome the limited time problem.

ii. We cooperate with each other and make good use of morning or lunch break time to do our discussion or to carry out each otherˇ¦s duty and weˇ¦ll use the group leader to collet those work.

iii. We set a blog for students to put their data or materials little by little to the sky drive.

˘i Students arenˇ¦t good at computers.

Students have problem using computers. Team members from our team are all 4th graders. They have problem using computers, such as editing photos, typing, and building a website. So we made a plan to teach students these skills step by step.

i. We make good use of schoolˇ¦s resource: Teachers make plans for improving studentˇ¦s computer skills little by little.

ii. We make good use of parentsˇ¦ resource to teach kids how to search, how to type and how to send email.

˘i Students arenˇ¦t good at interviews.

Students donˇ¦t know how to have interviews with other because they donˇ¦t do that before.

i. Before the interview we needed to know things about the people, the time, the place, the questions, and the equipment that were related about the interview. We practice what we learn a lot before the interview. ii. During the interview, we needed to use our hands, minds, mouths, eyes and ears which meant that we needed to concentrate during the interview and we needed to catch the point so that we would get the answer of what we wanted to know about.

  ˘i Our Project Sound Bite

a. We learn to know historical site, get closer to historical site and to cherish historical after spending almost six months of doing this project.

b. After finishing this project, the students finally learn to know how to cooperate with each other and also learn that unite we stand and divided we fall.

c. Students widen their horizons by searching data of it, by visiting it, by interviewing with people, by making report and by building website. What's more, we learn to overcome difficulties while doing this project.
