When my teacher mentioned that “Ba-Ji-Quan’ was to be the subject of the “School Cyberfair” I was very excited, because there would be no better chance than this to let more people know “Ba-Ji-Quan”. The process of making was tough, but, I was very happy to be able to share the experience in and the reason of practicing “Ba-Ji-Quan” with my younger schoolmates.

During the process, not only did I learn to make web page, but also I realized that a good work needs the efforts of a group! I have made a lot of efforts when I practice the martial art, and I did too when making the web page. What touched me was my schoolmates’ enthusiasm for having better understanding of “Ba-Ji-Quan”. This also left in my final year of elementary school a good memory. I thank every of them.

I was assigned to the part of fist techniques when I joined the School Cyberfair. At first I felt unlucky to hear of that, because I wondered how I could finish my part with so many kinds of fist techniques being there. But, later I realized that I should sort the information so that I would not get confused. Then I should interview the Wufong learners. In the first place, I was very reluctant to interview, but mom talked me into it. In the first interview I made, I kept my voice very small with my head down staring at my note, in which I wrote the topic, all the times; I did the same thing in the second interview. Then, in the third, my voice was louder and I did not keep my head down. That was what I think improved most when participating the Cyberfair team. Back from the interview, the sorting was also tiring. So many words written made me dizzy. And these needed arranged before being typed into a Word document, a tough job! I thought I would need a pair of thick glasses when I typed them all. The participation in the School Cyberfair was exhausting; however, when I finish my work, I was self-impressed and had that sense of achievement.

I came to know that martial arts are so diverse only when I participated in the Cyberfair. I also knew of the history of the instructors in Ba-Ji-men. Moreover, after a while I can type faster than before because we needed often to write report on the computer. Also, we often search on line for the information about Ba-Ji-men, so, we learned more about it. It was only that not all information on line is correct; so, it took a longer time for me to search. It was tiring in the beginning to make the web page, but, now I just feel that was not much. Now, when we finished the job for the Cyberfair, that sense of glory was second to none! If I have another chance of joining the School Cyberfair, I hope to be able to give it another try and enjoy another kind of fun! I also hope to join with more people in the Cyberfair next time. I don’t care much about winning or losing the Cyberfair contest; I feel that being happy and fair is most important. I wish to join Cyberfair again happily!

I knew nothing about it when I first joined the School Cyberfair; I only thought that the weapons should be interesting. I borrowed a book on weapons from Kuan-Yu’s father, but, I could not understand it, except that the comic alongside to illustrate the weapons was funny. When we took photos at the school, we saw the big brothers and sisters training with the weapons and they looked so fabulous. We did not know until we interviewed that it had taken them a very long time to practice to do that way. As Kuan-yu’s father says, “one cannot practice weapons until he has practice the fist techniques for three years”, I thought it takes learning with big patience to have the chance of touching the weapons. And it was only after we sorted the information that we know Chinese weapons come in so many varieties; there are long ones, short ones, regular ones and irregular ones.
I felt from the interviews and photograph taking that the martial art practitioners are all polite, humble, not rushing or impatient, a way I hope to be in. It took me a long time to rearrange the interview materials and photos taken on the computer each time, which made me dizzy and sore in the lower back and hip. Though really tired, looking at the completed work, I still felt the sense of achievement and happy.

The content I am responsible for in the research project is to organize the instruction to Ba-Ji-men, and I need to search on line the information about Ba-Ji-Quan. My problem was that in Wikipedia was different from those materials some people wrote in the internet. My solution was to ask Master Chen to check whether the information I searched for was correct. Then, I changed some sentences that are too classical in writing into spoken Chinese and add explanations to the proverbs. I think Ba-Ji-Quan is a very good martial art. When making the production, I would come across many troubles; but eventually with the warm support and generous assistance from everyone, I finished this report without failure.

In the beginning I was assigned to the topic of “martial virtue” and it was totally strange to me. Then, I became to know by searching information in the books and in the internet and interviewing Master Chen and Kuan-yu. Only through these actions, I knew better Ba-Ji-men. I felt the process of production was very hard, which took information search, interviewing and photography; but, finally when I looked at the results produced with the efforts by everyone together, I thought it was worth. I had better understanding of martial virtue during the recent production; I also learned about teamwork and its spirit. Moreover, as we used extracurricular time to make preparations, we should allocate the time effectively (because I had other extracurricular activities like swimming and clam school) as well as making the best preparation, just in case. I feel I need to thank Mom most during the production for this School Cyberfair, because she assisted me when I could not find the information I want. She also explained the words I did not understand. I guess this is what “there must be a great woman behind a successful man”, which my father often says, means.

When I was assigned to the glory of Ba-Ji-men, I had thought it easy; but, it turned out that I had not a single clue. In the beginning, I wondered what to do; then I found others with the same problem. As time passed, I gradually understood before I could make it. But, while it was very difficult to do, that kind of feeling was terrible, especially when the deadline was near, there seemed to be a sound of “You’re finished” around from time to time, and I suddenly had a thought of really being finished. What a nightmare! I was fortunate to know of Ba-Ji-men because this is a rare chance, despite the reports repeatedly required was tiring. However, since I wanted to join the Cyberfair, I should do well what my teacher assigned. Everyone thought that this after all was good for us, as we make progress in both computer capability and in Ba-Ji-men. And I like that relaxation best when I submitted the report and homework—it was wonderful!

I participated in the School Cyberfair because I was interested creation on computer. There were many obstacles in the course of web page making and information searching, for example, no idea as how to write and search without results. But, after weeks, I made it through—that was more tiring than running an eight hundred meter race.
My father and my mother taught me some applications of the program as I joined this activity and I was interested and amused to learn them, which also made our website abundant in content. Due to the topic chosen, I saw Ba-Ji-Quan and the weapons really practiced for the first time; it shocked me, as I saw with my own eye, unlike watching it on TV or computer. The big brothers and sisters were focused and serious in practicing the martial arts. They are my role model; I hope to be as focused, serious and skilled as they in future.
