“Weapons” had referred to those used in battlefields, but began to be used by all schools of martial art as the practice of martial arts later was adopted by civilians. Weapon use and fist techniques are closely associated. Some fist styles were derived from lance techniques, such as Ba-Ji-Quan and Xing-yi quan.
