The Shung Ye Museum of Formosan Aborigines was established in 1994 as a specialist museum founded on the collection and display of artifacts of Taiwan’s indigenous peoples. It is dedicated to promoting mutual understanding between different ethnic groups, through careful research, preservation and explanation of the essence of Aboriginal cultures. The museum also has a special exhibition room where related exhibitions are held at regular intervals to broaden visitor’s field of concern, and to present the many faces of indigenous peoples’ culture.

Illustration of museum building: The Shung Ye Museum of Formosan Aborigines was designed by architect Er-pan, Kao. The outlay of this building adapted indigenous peoples’ image of traditional dwellings “building log as nests”. The base of the building was painstakingly chose the original and indigenous material and piled up with shale which brought the outer walls of this museum look to be both delicate and indigenous.

Symbol of the museum: main structure/nice rhombus which represents fusion of tribes; both sides/waves which represents whirling ocean.

Rhombus pattern was commonly used among Taiwan’s indigenous peoples. The red Rhombus pattern was adapted from one piece of indigenous from Atayal weaving˙ which represents eyes in one tribe of Atayal called Seediq Bale.
