1st Visit (November 8, 2011)

On November 8, 2011, we visited Lujhou City The Forbidden City Museum, and we also invited Mr. Wang to give an introduction to the museum. In the beginning, Mr. Wang told us the history of Lujhou. After his introduction, we entered the entrance and what we first saw were two statues of gods. Mr. Wang told us that these two statues of gods are called “Wengzhong,” which were used to worship Qin Shi Huang in the Qin Dynasty. Mr. Wang then showed us the statue of “Maitreya” and told us that we should “learn the aggressive spirit of Maitreya.” The next statue we saw was the statue of “Guan Gong.” This statue was carved more than 500 years ago. Mr. Wang also showed us the most precious antiquities in the museum. Among all the antiquities that he introduced to us, I like three of them the best, “foot binding cloth,” “ivory carvings,” and “jade burial suit.” I found this visit rewarding because I understood the characteristics and importance of Lujhou City The Forbidden City Museum. Most importantly, this visit enabled me to realize that Mr. Wang collected antiquities for preservation of history……Shi-han

We paid a visit to the celebrity Mr. Liang-chuan Wang, who told us many astonishing stories about Lujhou. He also told us the frustrations and stories he had experienced during his collection of antiquities. Afterwards, he showed us the antiquities he collected. I saw the foot binding cloth used in the past and started to realize that women in the past lived a miserable life. I also saw white jade bowl in the Qing Dynasty during the reign of Qianlong. Moreover, shellfish fossils are the oldest antiquities in the world. This shellfish has been in existence for more than 100 million years. In addition to the antiquities, I was also impressed by Mr. Wang’s spirit and love for collection of antiquities ……Ya-han

The first visit to Lujhou City The Forbidden City Museum was a special experience to the three teachers and ten students. We arrived at the entrance of the museum and waited there. Afterwards, we started to look around like detectives investigating cases. Our teachers took us to the ticket office. We saw Mr. Wang right after entering the entrance. He is a friendly and easygoing person, and he was also good at carving statues of gods. He won the 1st Art Olympics in the United States – “Gold Medal Heritage Award of Important Global Culture and Art” and thus was called “Master sculptor of Lujhou.” At the moment I saw him, I was attracted by his gentle and sincere attitude. He suggested that it is important to share all his collections with all the people in Lujhou by opening this museum to hold exhibitions. He views all his collections as his children to protect them. In addition, he mastered the history, background, and every detail about antiquities. Therefore, he enriched our knowledge about antiquities. Mr. Wang introduced to us the history and denomination of Lujhou, and we all were busy keeping notes of what he said. Mr. Wang took us to the interior of the museum where there were Chinese garden style and various kinds of treasures. He chatted and laughed with us, and he also demonstrated the magnetic field developed by statues……Husan-hong.

During our 2nd visit to Lujhou City The Forbidden City Museum, we prepared professional “core” questions for the interview. We were quite curious and nervous when we stepped into the museum. In the second visit to the museum, I acquired more knowledge than I did in the former visit. I also asked questions about the three antiquities that I was most interested in. I understood the difference between the ivory carving of the legend of the moon festival preserved in Lujhou City The Forbidden City Museum and that preserved in National Palace Museum. It is quite special that two completely different creatures, bats and imperial concubine, are on the same carriage. Mr. Wang explained to me that bats are not something evil but “blessing” in Chinese culture and it is intended to bring blessing to the imperial concubine. I benefited a lot from this visit. I hope that I can have more opportunities to learn more about antiquities from Mr. Wang……Shi-han

We all put on thick coats because the weather was quite cold. We trembled with our fingers to keep the notes of the introduction in detail. As we kept the notes, we also interviewed the curator. What surprised me was that the curator was able to answer all the questions raised by all of us and gave detailed explanations. I really admire and respect him. The curator also said, “Today is your lucky day to read the precious ‘palm-leaf manuscript’ here.” It was true that we acquired a lot of knowledge in this visit.
