At the
entrance of Lujhou City The Forbidden City Museum, there are a pair of stone
statues of civil/military officials on the right side and left side, respectively,
and there is also a stone carving of an ax. The Museum faces south and was
built with unique designs. The Chinese-garden landscaping was designed
according to the principles of FengShui. For example, there are “Scholar’s
Residence” exhibition hall in the garden, dismount stone of civil/military
officials in 1801, “Fu-de Temple” in 1863 in the Qing Dynasty, “Xi Qin Wang Ye” in the Ming
Dynasty, and “En Chu Kong”
in 1508.
The
horizontal inscribed board at the entrance of main exhibition hall reads, “Residence of Prince in the Qing Dynasty.”
The dazzling antiques in the exhibition hall include emperor statues, jade,
bronze, wood, porcelain, weapons, and mandarin hats. The most unique one is the
“jade burial suit in the Western Han
Dynasty” 188 cmin

at JinningShizhaishan Hill,Yunnan. It was made of a total of
2,498 pieces of jade and weaved by a gold thread with a weight of 1,100 g. It is really hard to see a jade
burial suit that is maintained complete in public/private museums in either Taiwanor abroad.
A complete series of “Throne in Emperor’s
Palace in the Ming Dynasty” is also on exhibition in the museum, including
a shield of elegant carvings covered with gold foil, 12 jade lion as office
device, 9-dragon chair, robe hanger, gold crown, etc. Among them, the “moon” of
ivory carving themed “The Legend of the Moon Festival” consists of 52 layers,
outnumbering that of ivory carving in National PalaceMuseum. Chinese weapons
are also one of the exhibition themes. There are various knives, swords,
spears, shields from the Warring States Period to the Qing Dynasty. Although
weapons are meant to kill, they are also quite beautiful. The weapons of famous
generals were elegantly carved in sheath, handle, and blade, worthy of
appreciation.
The articles
on exhibition which are more valuable also include YueFei sword, Qi Chi Guangknife, and Zheng Cheng-gong saddle. The
most unique one is the “knife in the
knife covered with silver foil” used by Jinyi Wei in the Ming Dynasty. If
the knife is accidentally taken away by others, the user can take the chance to
draw out the sword hidden in the sheath. There are also “iron short” as body
amour and “triangular thorn” against it. Some strange weapons, such as “iron talons,”“seven-star gold dragon sword” of WudangBagua, Ting Zhang for beating sinners’ in butt, rattan shield, etc. are
all worthy of careful appreciation.
