Before we proceeded to research and interviews, we not only looked for related information and news online, but also designed a questionnaire about the blind. The purpose for this questionnaire is to understand what most children think about the visually impaired. Target respondents are the fifth graders of Wu Xing Primary School. Here is the result of our questionnarie:

Analysis of responses:

1.What do you think about the visually impaired?

99% of the students feel sorry for them.

2.How do we help them?

90% or the students are willing to help the visually impaired to cross the road, or to any places that they wish to go. The others have stated that they have no idea.

3.What are the causes of blindness?

Most students think blindness is either born with or caused by accidents. 10% of the students have no idea what the causes of blindness are.

4. What kind of occupations are for the visually impaired?

Most people think that the most suitable job for the blind is being a masseur while less people have mentioned musicians and singers.

5.Can the blind use the computer?

97% of the respondents think not because the blind cannot see the computer screen. 3% of the respondents think they can use the computer because of ways like Braille typing, listening, and keyboard memorization.

6.Do you know any restaurants or public places near school or in Taipei City that is friendly to the visually impaired?

Most people either don’t know or not sure about this.
