Brief introduction of MOCA Taipei

1. History:

The building was built in 1921 and the home for Kensei Shogakko(Jian Cheng Elementary School) of Japanese colonial period. It was a school only for Japanese students.
After the World War II, the building was used as the City Hall for Taipei City Government, which lasted for 50 years.
After the City Hall was moved to the present location, this building was designated as a municipal cultural asset in 1996. For the purpose of reusing historical buildings, this building was turned into a museum called Museum of Contemporary Art, Taipei.

2. Architectural characteristics:

The two-story brick building is a model of architectural symmetry. Above the central hall is the spacious old assembly with its high ceiling. A bell tower rises from the center of the roof highlighting its distinctive architectural style.

(Note: During Japanese colonial period, Rixin Primary School was exclusive to Taiwanese students, while Jian Cheng elementary school was only for Japanese students.)
