Step 1: Light the Joss Sticks

First of all, it is important how to enter the temple. the traditional custom of Taiwan temple is: 'Enter from the right temple door, go out from the left temple door', as the old saying goes, 'Dragon door(right door) Enter, Tiger door(left-hand door) Leave'. After entering the temple, you go to the place where the joss sticks are, and hold one handful joss sticks(usually 15), and then light them.

Step 2:Worship Tian-Gong

Tian-Gong: A God; Taiwanese believe the god is the the ruler of heaven.

You go to the atrium in the center of the temple and face to the sky, you pay your homage to Tian-Gong, then you have to insert three joss sticks in the giant stone censer.
While inserting joss sticks, please use your left hand and try to insert the joss sticks straight.

Step 3:Worship Sanguan Dadi

Sanguan Dadi: Three natural world Gods: Sky God, Land God and Water God.

You go to the ladder by the atrium and face to the sky, you pay your homage to 'Sanguan Dadi' whose statues are on the roof of the temple, then you insert three joss sticks into the censer.

Step 4:Worship the Main Gods

Your go into the main hall. First, you pay homage to the main gods whose statues are placed on the center shrine, and insert three joss sticks into the gods' censer. Second, you worship to Chu-sheng-niang-niang(goddess of child birth) whose statue is placed on the right shrine, and insert three joss sticks into the her censer. Finally, you worship to Marshal Chen, Tai-Yang-Sing-Jyun(Lord of the Sun), Fang Wang Ye and Envoys Yang whose statues are placed on the left shrine, and insert three joss sticks into the gods' censer.
