Origin of Youchang

We visited the historic sites of Youchang.

It is said that Yuanshuai Temple was built in 1661, when some soldiers were sent to set up a camp named "the Right Camp" in Youchang area by Jheng Cheng-gong of the Ming Dynasty. Youchang was developed long ago. In the Ming Dynasty(1661A.D.), Jheng Cheng-gong sent soldiers to set up a camp named "the Right Camp" in Youchang area. The old name of Youchang was Youchong, locals thought that the traditional meaning in China of this word, Youchong, is not lucky, so they renamed 'Youchong' as 'Youchang' in 1953A.D.

Yuan-Shuai Temple

San-Shan-Guo-Wang Temple (Temple of the Three Mountain-Kings) is one of four major temples in Youchang.

Yuan-Shuai Temple is the landmark of Youchang.

There are four temples now in Youchang area:Yuan-Shuai TempleˇBSan-Shan-Guo-Wang Temple (Temple of the Three Mountain-Kings)ˇBFord TempleⅠ(Temple of the Land-God)ˇBFord TempleⅡ(Temple of the Land-God). Among them Yuan-Shuai Temple developed first, it occupies on the important position of the traffic routes, and becomes the landmark and spokesman of Youchang gradually.
