Since August 1, 2001, Principal Chun-che You had
led organized effort to request resources for
Aboriginal Resource and Culture Center and to
integrate resources provided by students’
parents and historians. In addition, to preserve
aboriginal music and discover singing talents,
Chang Shu Elementary School formed a student
choir in 2002 and had bee award for outstanding
achievement and earned great reputations for
excellent performance. In the future, the choir
expects to integrate traditional dance into its
performance and is also inspired to become a
talented aboriginal choir and dance group.
Chang
Shu Elementary School is currently led by a
music director, a music conductor, and Ms.
Hui-mei Lin. It has been a very successful
experience for their first debut.
Chang
Shu Elementary School consists of 200 aboriginal
students. The student choir consists of 40
students from grade 3 to 6. Initially, lack of
practice time was a concern for the choir.
Thanks to their natural born talents in singing,
the choir pulled themselves together one hour
each week and gave their best shot for an
amazing performance.
Because Chang Su Elementary School is located at
the outskirt of a major metropolitan area, most
students have lost their touch with aboriginal
cultural heritages. Nonetheless, the school has
been working hard to preserve aboriginal
characteristics of the student choir. By
integrating dancing with the existing choir
performance, the choir serves a role of
preserving traditions and identifying itself
with the beautiful culture.
