Afterthoughts

Pei-hung Tsai

This is my first time to make CyberFair project, there are many things that I can't understand but have to do. At first, I thought it was easy, but after doing it, I found it difficult and hard. I had to frequently revise what I had done. I also needed interview some people and attend endless meetings. Moreover, the schedule is so tight. I really wanted to give up several times, but it was half done. I hope I can stick to it and finish it.

Preparing this report enabled me to use the skills I had learned, and also made me to realize that we should not assume that one thing is difficult before doing it. I should stick to it and emulate sportsmanship. I should not give up halfway. In fact, we've already finished half of the work. It's not as difficult as we imaged. We should finish it and don't give up halfway.

After interview of Mr. Cheng Wu, I also knew more about the importance of trees to the environment. Science and technology make progress with time. While making progress, people shall not ignore environmental problems. I hope that more people can see our achievements and know the importance of planting trees.

Tzu-chun Ku

This is my first time to do this project. I thought it was easy work. When I browsed lots of previous works on the internet, the detailed articles accompanied by many photos, I changed my mind.

At the middle late stage, there were many things to be done, such as endless data checking, photo taking, weekly progress report, web page making, tree planting and publicity. I really wanted to give up. However, when I saw my partners checking the data and their enthusiasm in the discussion, I was inspired. I thought to myself: This project is for the team not me.

We went to " Pure Garden" to interview Mr. Cheng Wu. He told us the benefits of many native species in Taiwan and lamented that most people like exotic species but underestimate the rich ecology around them. I agree with Mr. Cheng Wu very much! He also said that some operators cut down lots of precious and rare timbers and resell them to processing plants for profit through smuggling, which is really abominable! Although the difficulty of this activity is quite great for me, the teachers have also given us some suggestions and guidance. Finally, I would like to thank everyone for their cooperation and hard work and hope to achieve good results!

The biggest influence that the CyberFair project brings to me is the importance of division of work and cooperation because one person cannot finish it. We usually like to sit idle and enjoy the fruits of others' work, or rely on others. This time we should work for the honor of the team and should think of the whole team instead of ourselves. Thus, we worked carefully, but also cooperated with our classmates to finish it.

This time we visited Mr. Cheng Wu. He told us many stories about trees and himself. Mr. Cheng Wu patiently and carefully cultivated every tree in" Pure Garden". All grows very tall and strong in Mr. Cheng Wu's hands. In the process, Mr. Cheng Wu never think giving up because planting trees is his ideal goal. Mr. Cheng Wu's patient explanation let us learn many ways to plant and take care of trees. When we asked questions one by one, he also explained to us without hesitation. Finally, he gave us a book and saplings, and took pictures with us. Mr. Cheng Wu was very kind.

Thank teachers for giving us the opportunity to take part in CyberFair project and guiding us patiently. We also conducted interview so that we can explore and learn more.

Jen-chuan Liao

This is my first time to take part in the CyberFair Project. I feel very happy to take part in this competition, because when we were preparing this report, we learned that we should read articles more carefully when looking for information. Moreover, we have known that in this small land there is a unsung hero who is dedicated to protecting Taiwan's environment. We are also inspired by him and have determined to protect our Taiwan better. After doing the CyberFair project, we realized that there were so many application programs for making reports, but we never knew or studied about them. Also, we discussed how to make and present the best works. After repeated revision, our articles became better.

The CyberFair project has taught me to go ahead bravely in the face of difficulties. We cannot succeed by escaping difficulties. In the future we should try to find a solution if encountering problems. Although it takes time and labor, giving is the only shortcut to success. Success comes to those who work hard. With this experience, we can break through ourselves again and again.

Chih-ling Sung

I'm very happy to have the opportunity to participate in the CyberFair project. Although we didn't know how to start at the beginning, the teachers carefully guided us and answered our questions patiently, the interactions accelerated our learning ability. Then, we completed our framework of the project step by step.

In this interview of Mr. Cheng Wu, we have learned how to protect Taiwan's native tree species, instead of always worshiping exotic species, and also have know many trees that are not taught in the classroom, suitable growing environments and vine treatment methods. Mr. Cheng Wu is very kind and powerful. He, like inexhaustible treasures, taught us so much knowledge.

I would like to thank teachers for giving us the opportunity to interview Mr. Cheng Wu. The trees and original ecological environment let us have a deeper understanding of life around us. I really like this CyberFair project, because we developed the teamwork and learned how to divide the work.

Because of this report, let me learn some report software, and my typing speed has improved a lot. In the past, I had never used the typing software on my computer and write by hand. It is very inconvenient if the texts have many characters. This project made me familiarize with the office software which makes typing faster, and everyone's writing skills and experience increased.

From the interview, we have known that fallen leaves are good fertilizer. This made me think that if farmers use fallen leaves to replace chemical fertilizers our food can be safer, and animals may have a more friendly environment. Fallen leaves have double benefits. From every word of Mr. Cheng Wu, I can feel Mr. Cheng Wu's desire to preserve Taiwan's native tree species, which also arouses my desire to plant trees together with him! Thanked Mr. Cheng Wu for sending us several saplings before returning home. I think this is a kind of inheritance. I must take good care of them!  I hope to make more people around know the importance of planting trees.

Yi-fan Hsieh

This is my first time to take part in the Cyberfair Project. I really didn't know at the beginning. I encountered many difficulties, such as briefing, finding key points and making web pages. I wanted to give up at one time. After study, hardworking and cooperation, as well as the guidance of teachers, we have become more and more familiar with such issues, and do them with facility we feel that it was not as difficult as we imagined. As long as we have perseverance and confidence and do it earnestly, we must achieve good results! This project has also made me braver!

We also visited Mr. Cheng Wu's "Pure Garden" this time. The garden made me deeply realize the preciousness of big trees. They can protect this land, conserve water and purify the air. It is the guardian god of our mankind. I admire Mr. Cheng Wu for preserving a full range of Taiwan’s native tree species. Further, I have learned a lot. I also realized the crisis Taiwan is facing now. Due to deforestation, many forests have been gone. It's a pity and abominable! The more I have known about the land beneath our feet, the more I feel it is beautiful. I must cherish and protect this land.

This experience has benefited me a lot. Everything is strange and new for me. It is very important to work together with my classmates and help each other. This is called “teamwork". I also want to thank the teachers for giving us this opportunity so that I can know more about our land in Taiwan and has determined to make the Cyberfair project better.

When I was in primary school, I once took part in a CyberFair project. I thought the job may be easy for me and I can finish it without efforts. However, it is not as easy as I imaged. Not only the difficulty increased, but also the workload became much more. I was constantly revising articles. I always felt that what I did was not good and correct, and I felt very tired at times, and even wanted to give up at one time.

In the past, I often slacked off and cannot decide which content can be used. Now I must stretch my nerves and do each step carefully. I am also more familiar with some word processing methods on computer, and the project proceeds in an orderly way and step by step. This is good.

When I went to interview Mr. Cheng Wu, I found that doing Cyberfair project was not as boring as I imaged. I felt I was like reporters on TV when interviewing Mr. Cheng Wu. This experience was very interesting! During the interview, I also got a deeper understanding of the harm of exotic tree species, and have known that we should attach importance to planting our native trees instead of exotic tree species.

Of course, the teamwork is indispensable to the CyberFair project, and everyone is the core of the team. In this activity, I have accumulated rich experience and have learned lots of knowledge, like enjoying the spring breeze. I deeply cherish this opportunity.

Min-yu Chang

This is my first time to participate in the CyberFair project and such a major topic that requires search of many data search, continuous discussions and interviews.  It's very hard for me to make the CyberFair project, but if I can get good results in international competitions, all my efforts are worth it.

After visiting Mr. Cheng Wu's " Pure Garden", I felt the air quality and coolness of Pure Garden is much better than that of the outside. Mr. Cheng Wu said that there were many trees in Taiwan, including the mountains, flat land and seashore. however. However, human beings are always selfish and cut down many trees for the sake of benefits and money. This has led to more and more bare land, rampant debris flow, loss of water and soil, and even impairs our health.

Mr. Cheng Wu also taught us his pithy formula-"a black haired chicken riding on the back of a yellow cow" to remember Taiwan's first-class deciduous tree species, namely, Formosan michelia, Taiwan Ebony, Taiwan Zelkova, Chinese Pistache and camphor. Mr. Cheng Wu told me many stories. We have known many tree species, and understood the truth that "It takes many years to grow a tree but a day to cut it down."

Wei-ling Chang

When I heard that I was going to take part in the CyberFair Project, I had many expectations because this was my first time to take part and try. Everything was very new to me, especially the theme of this time was local writer Mr. Cheng Wu, which made me feel extremely excited.

In this time, we went to visit Mr. Cheng Wu and saw " Pure Garden" as soon as we arrived. Everyone rushed to take photos with this landmark, and so did I.  Along the footpath of Pure Garden, we seem to walk into the forest and see many big trees, such as Formosan Michelia, Taiwan Zelkova, camphor tree and Taiwan Ebony, etc.  Mr. Cheng Wu said that Formosan Michelia is a kind of timber that can be used as a chopping board because it is hard and tough enough. It is not easy to be split by a knife and does not damage the knife, so it is suitable for being used as a chopping board material. Camphor, which can be used to build houses or as street trees, is a good native species. Taiwan Ebony has fruit to eat during the season and stand firm after taking root. They are good neighbors in the countryside. However, Mr. Cheng Wu also recounted the harm brought to people by exotic tree species, such as bald cypress, which is popular in recent years. Although it is unique in appearance, its root on the soil surface is very dangerous, which may trip people over, and even people may bump or be pricked by it after tripping.

Through this interview of Mr. Cheng Wu, I have known more tree species and their functions, and understood Mr. Cheng Wu's ideas and his Pure Garden. We should continue to cherish this land! His ideas shall be passed down generations by generations.
