How can you play the role of the International CyberFair project ambassador?
We collected the information from local newspapers, interviews of the tickets seller at Qingfan harbor, and organized this information through our observation during daily life. Furthermore, we took several times filed interviews and records of local photos, videos, language, words, and etc.. All of these actions are aimed to express our love to this environment, and show our passion of being little tour guides of Xiju.
What has been the impact of your project on your community?
We tried hard to learn about our island. We cannot finish this project without residents’ help. Uncle Shun-Shou was guiding us to visit villages in Xiju. The chief of Tianwo was teaching us the knowledge of religious ceremonies in Xiju. The residents were teaching us to make fish meatballs. Mr. Hsu and Miss Chen of Matsu National Scenic Area were offering us the rare pictures of Chinese Crested Tern and proofreading our article about Caipuao. Due to these help, we are able to be tour guides of Xiju now. And we will keep telling people everything about this island!
Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises
By doing this project, let us knew how unique this island is. It is not only the small island next to the huge mainland - China, but it also contains full of the culture of Mindong. The bricks and tiles of historical constructions on this island all reflected a special memory to local residents. In addition, there is a routine celebration of religious activity every year. It symbolized that the local residents had moved out will all come back to Xiju eventually. There are several special and delicious foods in this island as well. For example, the fish meatball is one of the local dishes. The texture likes a real meatball, but taste likes the flesh of fish. We are eager to learn how to make this complicated dish, and we are hoping to treat all of you in the future.
Matsu has a famous viewpoint called "Blue Tears," which it only can be seen in summer. Although you can see "Blue tears" in the several places in Matsu, we can assure you that "Blue tears" in Xiju is the most beautiful view in the entire Matsu. By visiting Xiju, you can see the magnificent geological landscape in Caipuao and crested terns on Snake Island, and enjoy the shining beach under the star sky.
