      Project Narrative

[Research Motives]

We tend to think about ourselves as human beings.

We also think about cats or dogs because we have a stronger and better stereotype image about them.

We don’t think about rabbits as much. That is for sure.

There are Garden Homeless Animal Association and Taiwan Dog Saving Association for dogs.

There are Garden Homeless Animal Association and Cat Lovers’ Association for cats.

We also have organizations such as Chinese Christian Relief Association and Hebron Marginal Groups’ Home to help people.

For rabbits, Taipei Rabbit Society Association is all they have.

This is why we decided to write this report, in order to give them a hand.

We started by attending their workshops for a year, although we were not sure whether we were able to fully understand the contents.

Our interest in Taipei Rabbit Society Association remains strong so our teachers got us to work as volunteer workers there.

Our experience told us that they were lacking in resources.

We therefore decided to help those nice people.

This is how this report and questionnaire came about.

Our survey indicates that most people have no idea what rabbits need and how they behave.

Our project aims to bring the knowledge to the public.

[Research Purposes]

Taipei Rabbit Society Association came to our school to give lectures to elite classes.

We designed the questionnaire to help the public to know more about rabbits.

We hope our web pages can help people to learn more about rabbits and Taipei Rabbit Society Association.

[Research Method and Procedures]

Unlike cats or dogs, rabbits do not come at the top of our pet choices.

This is why we thought producing webpages on rabbits is a good idea.

First of all, we conducted online searches and created a questionnaire by using Google Forms to gauge the public’s understanding about rabbits.

Hsi-chieh Wu: 3 animations (weight, anger, boiled water)

5/ 14  We cut back by one day regarding our webpage production because we hoped to participate in the competition “Encyclopedia of Energy”.

5/21  Hsi-chieh used XMind template “Six Thinking Hats” as the web site map.

This is XMind.

5/28  Hsi-chieh had troubles in coming up with ideas. We brainstormed on “Six Thinking Hats” by using a whiteboard.

6/4   Efforts continued.

6/11  Hsi-chieh completed the “Six Thinking Hats” and started with animations.

6/18  Some animations went missing. We had to start over.

6/25  We had to miss out on one class that day because of outdoor learning activities.

6/31  Summer vacation started.

9/1   School begins.

9/14  We ended up in different classes in the new semester.

Our teacher set up a class for us so that we could continue to work on the project together.

9/17  The task of drawing a variety of rabbits was assigned to Hsi-chieh Wu.

The task of searching for books related to rabbit keeping was assigned to Cheng Lai.

The writing of an introduction on TRSA was assigned to Li-you Chang.

9/21  The production of the homepage button was assigned to Shu-yun Hou.

Efforts continued.

9/24  Hsi-chieh Wu, Li-you Chang and Cheng Lai went to play in the dodge ball team of the school.

No progress was made except my entry in the research journal.

10/1  We invited Hsin-ni Chang to join our currently four-people team.

10/5  We had to miss out on one class because of the outdoor learning activity today.

10/8  Our teacher showed us how to make videos.

10/12  We produced the homepage.

10/15  We used Scratch2 to paste pictures on the homepage.

10/19  We drew a dividing line and continued with picture pasting on the homepage.

We made a list of what donations are required by Taipei Rabbit Society Association

.

We also compiled the basic data of our team members.

10/22 10/26 The task of drawing pictures for different breeds of rabbits was assigned to Hsi-chieh Wu.

The translation of Chinese into English was assigned to Cheng Lai.

The listing of the donations required by TRSA was assigned to Li-you Chang.

The continued drawing of the dividing line was assigned to Shu-yun Hou.

10/26  We continued with the translation and the pictures of different breeds of rabbits.

10/29  Hsi-chieh Wu was asked to write our progress report today because she is the best writer among us.

11/2   Everybody was asked to write about their research experience.

Li-you Chang was the first one to start with this.

11/5  Hsi-chieh Wu continued with the drawing of the variety of rabbits.

It was Cheng Lai’s turn to write the progress report.

Li-you Chang edited the research report.

Shu-yun Hou began with the animations previously missed out.

11/9  As we would like to take part in another competition, we asked

Li-you Chang to start out with the webpages for it.

Other people carried on with the current project.

11/12  Our teachers had to cut back on one class for us because there was an examination on new students of the elite classs.

11/16  Li-you Chang wrote the progress report today.

Other people carried on with their own tasks.

11/19  Efforts continued.

11/23  Cheng Lai had to practice the campus circling routine today so did not show up today.

Other people (including Hsin-ni Chang) all came in.

Unfortunately, we couldn’t open the webpages for some reasons so we couldn’t compile the progress report.

11/26  Everybody showed up today so we were making good progress.

12/3 Hsi-chieh had to make up missing classes so couldn’t make it today. We used Aurasma to produce the videos for scanning.

This is Aurasma.

Because of my strong computer skills, I joined the project team to work on a website dedicated to rabbits.

Other team members include Hsi-chieh Wu, Shu-yun Hou, Cheng Lai(me) and Li-you Chang.

Li-you is responsible for the research project and summary.

Shu-yun and Hsi-chieh are responsible for the research structure and basic data of team members.

I am in charge of task assignments. Three of them handle animations.

[Afterthoughts]

Shu-yun Hou

I wanted to join the project after I took part in a Taipei Rabbit Society Association

 workshop held in our school.

We also went there to help out as volunteer workers.

I saw many cute rabbits at Taipei Rabbit Society Association

.

We decided to dedicate our independent research project to Taipei Rabbit Society Association, as part of the open curriculum.

We don’t often see stray rabbits.

It was not until we embarked on this project that we realized Taipei Rabbit Society Association

is taking care of a few dozens of stray rabbits.

Almost all of them were injured when they were found.

We hope to help these rabbits.

We decided to adjust our research focus for this Cyberfair.

We issued a questionnaire survey online. After we analysis all datad we found some problems need to tell.

But the majority of respondents are aged between 20 and 30.

The oldest respondent is 49 years old.

Hence it was impossible for us to know how much people above 50 years old know about rabbits.

As most of the grey-haired do not use computers much, we have decided to conduct a paper-based survey next time.

We encountered a lot of difficulties in the process.

However, we know we can steer it through as long as we work hard.

Cheng Lai

I really feel for Taipei Rabbit Society Association. They are located in a less-than-ideal address.

Stray rabbits are often overlooked.

I hope this website can boot the public awareness about this problem.

There are classes for us on Monday and Thursday for this project.

One day we were told by our teachers that International Cyberfair requires English-lanaguage contents.

But all our files were in Chinese.

As the best English speaker in the team, I had to translate everything into English.

This included the research journal, the survey questionnaire, the introduction and the process summary.

It was a daunting but worthwhile task.

We all hoped to produce a successful website.

I am very interested in computers.

I feel like a cyberspace celebrity in the process.

My second aunt said I am very good with computers.

I really appreciate that our teacher Lin Yun set up this class for us .

Hsi-chieh Wu

We didn’t know there are stray rabbits in the world until we started this project.

Doing this progect about Taipei Rabbit Society Association, we learned how to produce ours own webpages.

This independent research project took on a life of its own.

We learned by observing the society and thinking about what we should do.

Hopefully this class continues so that we can learn more about life in the process.

Li-you Chang

Only class401.class405 students could attend the lectures on humanity.

We were actually finishing off what we left off in the fourth grade.

I had a great time in the webpage production process.

Hopefully we can do this again next semester by producing another new website.
