Our competition category:Environmental Awareness
Description of our community
southern part in Tainan. It’s in the southeast of Jianan Plain and belongs to Erren River. Next to it in the east is Guanmiao District, and in the west is Rende District. Two Districts, Alian and Lujhu, in Kaohsiung are in its south; Yongkang District and Shinhua District are in its north. The griculture in Gueiren area develops well. The Hong Wa Cuo Tourist Science Leisure Farm near to Wenhua Elementary School was built by Xiu Fuchang couple. Its area is about 1200 square feet. There are a butterfly museum, an insect museum, a herbarium and an organic papaya garden. Every construction and plant took the couple more than three years to achieve. They still expand now.
The farm becomes a good place for students in Gueiren to take field trips because of its natural environment and the idea of environment protecting. The Dream Insect Ecology Park was built in the Wenhua Elementary School with the support of the Farm. The insects and the information how to rear insects were provided by the Hong Wa Cuo Tourist Science Leisure Farm. Teachers, students and parents in our school maintained the park together. We want to make cooperation between local leisure farm and school. Our story started from the plants and trees on campus. These team members watched the insects, smelled the plants, and took care of the insects in the insect area. They love to see butterflies flying on campus.
They like to be a little moving force to build an ecology environment. This time, we participate in improving the substance environment on campus from pupils' aspect, including permeable paving, ecological landscape pond, Dream Insect Ecology Park, multi-level eco-green and fallen leaves compost. Our goal is to create a landscaped and healthy school where people can live and play with insects. We further hope beetles and flying-butterflies can be seen on campus, not just in the insect area or Leisure Farm. Moreover, make the campus become a homeland where insects love to stay. Make a natural ecological path on campus. Teachers, students and parents become the environmental education volunteers to do something for the community environment.

Problems and solutions
Problem 1: Our team time was limited since we came from different classes. We only have one hour (4 p.m. – 5 p.m.) after school on Friday.
Solution: Divide the work to complete.
Problem 2: It’s hard to share information when the word had been parted. The data in USB drive is mass and mess. We can’t share easily.
Solution: We access drafts in Google Drive and Dropbox and upload to the cyber fair space after modified constantly. We share information to each other without the problem of data missing with the web platforms below.
Problem 3: What we presented on the website was mass and our reflections were unfocused.Solution: Use the software XMIND to make us focus when we not only discussed the ideas and thoughts, but also wrote the reflections and plan the schedules. Problem 4: It’s too difficult to make webpages.Solution: Use simple software and templates on websites to make up for our abilities of making webpages.
(1) First, put the information and photos together with Powerpoint. And then, saved each page as a picture and export. At last, apply the pictures to the templates on websites.
(2) Make web contents with EXE. And then, apply the contents to the templates on websites. The software, EXE, was very helpful to us who didn’t understand the HTML syntax.
(3) Enhance our webpages with FLASH e-book. Wow! Our webpages are cooler!!
Solution: Divide the work to complete.

Reflections:
Instructor:
We should encourage kids to observe and experience the interesting world when they have inquisitive manners to the colorful natural environment. We find many people contribute in the environment protection on campus and in the community. The team framed their distinctive webpages and learned the knowledge of insects and environmental conservation. We hope these kids publicize what they learned to let more people know the campus environment, love the local characteristics and also protect the hard-earned insect garden.
Students:
1. As we investigated the insects’ ecology, we reformed the environments on campus and maintain the insect garden. At the same time, we set up our webpages. The research took us more than 7 months. From the start of the project, we had a meeting and worked every Friday. Without hard-working, our webpages would complete smoothly. During this period, our team members played and argued on Fridays after school, but we still had our search production with the schedule. Through the research activity, we felt investigation is not easy. How to put these mess and mass information in order is another difficult task. Therefore, we learned the best way to complete the project is division of labor to further cooperation.
2. The Butterfly Museum in the Hong Wa Cuo Tourist Science Leisure Farm is cool and with good ventilation. There are many butterflies, bugs and insects. Plants and trees here are many varied. The organic papayas are provided adoption and planting. Several times, we asked Mr. Xiu about the rearing knowledge of insects and maintenance of the ecological environment. Mr. Xiu taught us attentively. Apply what we learned to our insect garden at school. We hope the insects in the insect garden at school are as good and pretty as those in the Leisure Farm.
3. We watered, fed bugs and swept in the insect garden at noon every day. It was hard and busy, but we were happy. When the flowers become beautiful, the butterflies fly around, and the bugs are strong and pretty, we felt a sense of achievement!
