Deliver the Love

“Are you handicapped? No, you are healthy and smart boys and girls. ” Our teacher usually told us. but we don't know the meanings. We went to the Immaculate Heart Center for Mentally Handicapped in December 18 ,2013. We knew the meanings.

the Immaculate Heart Center for Mentally Handicapped

Even though our teacher have told us about the real condition of the Immaculate Heart Center for Mentally Handicapped, I felt shocked and pained at the sight of the center. All the inmates of the center are mentally retarded to some extent, and need help with their daily lives. Thanks to a nun from Korea, who came to here to offer help as she could, this center is taken good charge of.
She would make pomelo tea and pickled cabbage to raise funds for the Immaculate Heart Center for Mentally Handicapped when she has got free time. She said it was nothing at all, and added that if without the help from Mr. Cheng, who gives baozi and money to them all the time, the center would not be in good shape as it is today.
Although I’m still too young to help these mentally challenged people, I entertained them with blowing ocarina, and really hoped they would like it. I would give help to those in need when I grow up to be adults.

We played our muisc for them.

After visiting the Immaculate Heart Center for Mentally Handicapped, I have learned to appreciate my good fortune as I was born healthy. Fortunately the center is staffed with volunteers and a nun from Korea to instruct the inmates about life skills. Not to mention people like Mr. Cheng, who invited us to join the get-together for the coming Christmas and sent out money all the time. I deeply felt the happiness of giving out and was very glad to have this opportunity to entertain them with my little performance.

We delivered the heart to them.

I realized that compassion and love can go beyond boundaries after joining in this meaningful activity in the center today. The Korean nun went to Taiwan to help those in need without thinking about her own benefits. What a great soul! I remembered we Taiwanese had given aid and help to the victims of the 311 earthquake Japan several years ago. Such compassion for foreigners makes the world a better place for all.
We had a really joyful time with the mentally retarded people in the Immaculate Heart Center for Mentally Handicapped, singing and playing games. We also sent our school’s calendar to the nun. I make up my mind to work as a volunteer in the center in the years to come.

The inmates of the Immaculate Heart Center for Mentally Handicapped cannot take care of themselves very well, and luckily, they can get the help from the Korean nun, volunteers and good people like the owner of the A-Zen Bakery and lead a better life.
At the sight of this, I mulled over my own good fortune and knew I have to cherish what I have and help others. An old saying goes, “It’s more blessed to give than to receive.”  I enjoyed my time in here and hopefully our entertainment can make them happier.

We played our music in the classroom.

I was nervous when we came to the center, because I had to blow ocarina for them. It went well and we proceeded to visit their classroom, which is greatly different from ours. After that, we took a tour round the A-Zen Bakery, and made an interview with the owner of the bakery. I plucked up my courage and asked a question, to which the owner responded gleefully. Today’s visits taught me to be appreciative of my own blessings and to be brave to do anything that has to be done. I want to help those in need when I grow up to be adults.

We chatted with the nun from Korea. She is great.

We took a third visit to the A-Zen Bakery, and I had learned a lot from this trip. We went to visit the Immaculate Heart Center for Mentally Handicapped first, and saw the kindergarten kids going caroling, which was very lovely. Then it was our turn to blow ocarina, which was so heavenly and pleasant to hear. Suddenly Santa Claus showed up and gave us lots of candy and sweets. After this trip, I pondered about my own fortune, and knew how lucky I have been.

We visited the center.

There are some training sports tool in the classroom.

We went to the Immaculate Heart Center for Mentally Handicapped today and had a lively interaction with the inmates there. We blew ocarina and entertained them. It occurred to me that there are many people in need in the world, and it’s our obligation to help others as much as we can. The owner of the A-Zen Bakery sends meat baozi to the center regularly. In the interview that was taken later, we asked Mr. Cheng what is his philosophy toward making baozi, and his answer was “One should have conscience.” He works hard to make yummy baozi, and helps other people with compassion, which makes him a role model for us. I would definitely help children with special needs when I grow up. I realized that happiness comes from giving what we have to others rather than being wealthy. Such happiness elevates our soul and enriches our mind.

We can see the steps how to wear their shoes.

Today we gave a performance for the inmates of the Immaculate Heart Center for Mentally Handicapped, which made me so glad throughout the visit. At first I felt a little shocked when seeing them. After a short period of time, I knew they are all kind-hearted and easy-going.  We then went to the A-Zen Bakery and conducted an interview with the owner. I did not dare to ask questions at first, yet I overcame shyness and joined others in the interview. In the process, I came to know that Mr. Cheng treats his staffers very well, and use best-quality materials to make baozi. I’m so glad to partake of the Cyberfair project, as we can not only learn a lot of knowledge, but can see more of the world. It was so much fun in taking part in the project, and I appreciate the experience very much.

We recieved their candies and wish in the Christmas party.

Today we took a visit to the A-Zen Bakery and the Immaculate Heart Center for Mentally Handicapped, and had a wonderful time together. The inmates gave us warmest greetings and cried out hurrahs when we made a performance to entertain them. They also gave us a performance.
This was my first time visiting a center like this, and I observed how hard-working they are, even with a slower mind. They don’t waste away their life, but try to work as hard as anybody else. When making a visit to the bakery, I found that Mr. Cheng was an exemplar to us all, who uses good materials to make buns and baozi, and treats his employees very well. He insists that one has to treat others well in the first place, so as to make the society better.

When I saw these mentally challenged inmates in the center, I felt so sorry for them and knew I had to count my own blessings. I came to appreciate what I have and want to extend my hands to those in need of help. What impressed me most was when we blew ocarina, the stereo was out of order, and we could only blow without background music. Seeing the audience made me flinch a little, yet I was very glad to give the performance as best as I could. Then a Santa Claus came out to deliver candy and sweets around, and I felt happier.

We took the baozi and our wish to the center in the second time.
