In what ways did your
students act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your Cyberfair
project both on-line and in person.
|
After meeting national
treasure holy palanquin masters, we hope the students of our school will know
that a holy palanquin is not merely a carrier for the gods, but it’s also a
wonderful representation of arts and humanities. The carving, the decorations,
the exquisite carvings on the roof, and the delicate dragon pillars, are all
worth the admiration of art lovers. By presenting it on the international
Cyberfair, the people of the world will have the chance to see the beauty of
the carvings expressed through the magnificent holy palanquins.
The Chen Clan has been in
the holy palanquin making business for three generations now. There were times
of ups and downs, and there were times when the business was almost obsolete.
However, through innovation and hard work, a fire rekindles in the holy
palanquin making industry. This beautiful yet touching story and the grandeur
of this beautiful artistry is the reason that drove us to discover its secrets.
|
What has been or will be the impact of your project on your
community?
|
-
Give the students of our
school the chance to get to know the industry of our hometown. To carry on the
beauty of this traditional artistry, the students were encouraged to share this
knowledge with neighbors and families at home; hence let more of the local
residents have the chance to truly understand the artistic presentation of holy
palanquins. With the community’s new understanding of the holy palanquin, not
only would the people feel a sense of prestige toward it, but they are also more
likely to allow their children to enter the profession. This would increase the
chance of the carrying on of this cultural artistry.
-
To the Chen Clan who ownedthe mass holy palanquin business, the establishing of this website would give
them a chance to get to know their profession all over again. This would allow
them to realize that their profession is an art, a heritage, and an innovation.
-
Give the mass generalpublic and the people of the world a chance to see the beautiful artistry
hidden within the busy pilgrimage parade, and this exquisite piece of art is
the holy palanquin.
|
How did your project involve other
members of your community as helpers and volunteers?
|
-
With the help of our school principal and
teachers, we were given the privilege to interview national treasure Master
Pao-neng Chen and Master Chin-shu Chen. The two Masters gave their full support
and they helped us selflessly.
-
We also saw the Matzu pilgrimage parade of NanYao Temple in Changhua County. Through
this event we had the chance to get in touch with the people who took part in
the carrying of the palanquins and the performing of the din tao performances.
We are very grateful for their help. They’ve taught us about the tradition and
process of the pilgrimage parade.
-
Duringthe Community Blessing Street Parade, we used the holy palanquin we made to
promote our Cyberfair project and the school anniversary celebration. The
community residents welcomed us with enthusiasm.
-
We visited and interviewed the Lukang Folk ArtsMuseum, which contained a large collection of ancient artifact. We would like
to thank the museum guide for providing us with the origin, the history, and
other knowledge about the holy palanquin.
