Junior report’s training camp

The beginning of the Junior report’s training camp~~~~

Before preparing for the interview, we were amateurs who had neither knowledge nor experience in the area of interview techniques! Therefore, our principal invited Ms. Cai-feng Chang, a reporter of the Mandarin Daily News, to teach us the secrets behind becoming a good junior reporter and give us advice on good interview techniques.

The “Who How When Where What” game

  1. We provided all sorts of interesting examples of who, how, when, where and what.
  2. We shuffled the different pieces of examples and drew them out by lot.
  3. We linked the pieces of examples into different scenarios.
  4. In turn we were instructed to apply the elements ofwho, how, when, where and what into writing pieces of news articles.

Key Points to Writing an Interview Outline

  1. Straight to the Point.
  2. Heavy to Light
  3. Inverted Pyramid

From past interviews, we applied the above elements to write our interview outlines.

  1. Reporters gave an introduction on three past interviews.
  2. We grouped each of the three interviews into the five elements of who, how, when, where and what.
  3. Tolearn to apply the three writing key points, we were divided into groups to practice how to write a good news interview outline.
