Ershui Township¡¦s famous composer and lyricist, Teacher Chih-jen Cheng, also a skillful doctor, once wrote:

Jhuoshuei River¡¦s water comes from the sky, it has our ancestors¡¦ blood and sweat
Jhuoshuei River¡¦s water comes from the sky, it has our ancestors¡¦ blood and sweat
Run, run, water is coming, run, run, water is coming
Run, run, water is coming, run, run, water is coming
Jhuoshuei River¡¦s water comes from the sky, it has our ancestors¡¦ blood and sweat
A mountain, another mountain, and another mountain, feeds everything, feeds me so I could grow
Jhuoshuei River¡¦s water comes from the sky, it has our ancestors¡¦ blood and sweat
A village, another village, and another village, every household¡¦s happiness fills the farm
Jhuoshuei River¡¦s water comes from the sky, it has our ancestors¡¦ blood and sweat
A winter, another winter, and another winter, spring then fall, each winter is a good winter
If you eat the fruit, worship the tree, be a solid person
Take real steps, Heavens will bless you
Jhuoshuei River¡¦s water comes from the sky, Jhuoshuei River¡¦s water comes from the sky, Jhuoshuei River¡¦s water comes from the sky¡K

-Lyrics of ¡§Water Running Festival¡¨

Lovely lyrics and a plain melogy convey the specialties and spirit of the Ershui area. Like the water of Jhuoshuei River being led into the Babao Canal, like the storyof Lin Sianshengjust happening yesterday, like the Water Running rituals held year after year; all these things explain the kindness and belief and traditions of cherishing happiness in Ershui people.

Now, another November is here.

Even though, the significance of Water Running is entertaining and experiential; even though, the function of ¡§tourism¡¨ has been added at Babao Canal; even though, the water headrace has been replaced by more advanced technology¡K The people living on this land have still followed the rituals and festivals of their ancestors. Listen to the clear and elegant words read by the master ceremony and the prayer voices that rise and fall, watch a faithful and solid prostration rite, then listen to the local people tell an old legend. Before you know it, you are singing the rising melody along with them, with the performance, the story of Babao Canal rise before your eyes. This is what we pursued in our recording ¡V the spirit of ¡§drinking water and thinking of its source¡¨!
