Phonograph

The appearance of morning glory horn phonograph is like the very first phonograph when it appeared in the world. It used to be widely used in the early 20th century, and we can see it in some old movies as a background decoration. It makes sound with a gramophone needle directly touching the disc. The defect is that it needs a larger space for the sound to spread out.

Desktop phonograph hides the horn tube in the box under the disc. Its principle of making sound is similar to morning glory horn phonograph. Some of them were made of wood inside. About the year 1925, the tube is improved and the sound became clearer.

Ground phonograph produces the sound similar to that of the desktop phonograph. The difference is that the former’s upper part makes sound, and there is an additional album cabinet on the lower part. After the year 1926, the sound tube was advanced again. The resonance speaker of this kind of phonograph is bigger and can filter the noise, consequently making a better sound.

Gramophone is the prototype of recorder. It turns the sound vibration into the transverse vibration of the needle, and records it on the disc. Gramophone uses flat disc instead of a big metal horn.

Roller phonograph can record sound manually. People can talk loud to its diaphragm and the sound will be recorded on the tinfoil inside through the vibration of the needle. Then we can put the needle on the tinfoil and the sound can be replayed through the diaphragm.
