The Future of CRH
Changhua Roundhouse(CRH) is an important cultural heritage so far. When CRH was faced the situation of being dismantled in 1994, the county magistrate, Ms. Chin-Chu Wong strove for keeping it, and finally Ministry of Transportation and Communications allocated the budget to reconstruct the roundhouse. In the end of 2012, Changhua City Office proposed the railway elevation project which got lots of concerns. Changhua County Government and some local groups put forth their ideas for Changhua Roundhouse and so did Cool-Bow.
The major projects Changhua County Government have planned
In 1994
The Minister of Transportation and Communication visited Changhua Roundhouse(CRH) and promised to allocate the budget to reconstruct it, and then, Changhua County Government posed both short-term and long-term plans. For the former, restructure the roundhouse under the name of “The Museum of Roundhouse Railway”. For the latter, try to get the honor of being assigned as National Historic Site and furthermore, build a National Railway Cultural Park.
In 2012
In order to reduce the risks of traffic accidents, Changhua City Office proposed the railway elevation project and the evaluation report will be released, and the final decision will be made in April, 2013.
Expectation from railway fans
Impacted by the railway elevation project, the status of CRH is uncertain and that’s not what railway fans would like to see.
Chung-Hong, Ma, the president of Babuza Railway Culture and History Working office asked all to stand up to reserve this national treasure and keep it working.
The public relations manager of the office, Chau-Ting, Yang, suggested to reuse the parking lot at the rear exit of Changhua Train Station as the bus station to regulate traffic flow in front of the station and make the nearby area prospective as well. And then the money saved from the "budget-cut" of this projec can be spent on those disadvantaged people instead.
