Interview time: 5:00 pm, Dec 7, 2011 Recorded by Pei-Chi Cheng, Ming-Yun Shih, Cheng-Hsien Kuo, Yu-Chi Chen, and Hsiao-Chu Shao |
1. Why is the
2012 Taiwan Lantern Festival being held in
Changhua County? |
Holding the
Lantern Festival can consolidate the consensus
of the people, and can motivate local prosperity
and development. This can ¡§make Changhua known,
and let the world know Changhua.¡¨ Many counties
and cities competed to hold the 2012 Lantern
Festival, and after briefings and votes, the
most suitable city to hold the 2012 Taiwan
Lantern Festival is Changhua County. This is how
Changhua County won the right to host the 2012
Taiwan Lantern Festival. |
2.Why was the Taiwan Lantern
Festival held in Lukang Township?
|
Lukang¡¦s history,
humanities, culture, architecture, and ancient
relics are all representative in Taiwan. Taiwan
Lantern Festival would certainly benefit from
being held in a place with as great a cultural
atmosphere as Lukang. With this type of
planning, the lantern festival can be combined
with Lukang traditions, culture, folk customs,
and relics to create a successful lantern
festival. |
3.How will the 2012 Taiwan
Lantern Festival being held in Changhua be
different from festivals in the past? |
First, the lantern venue is different. The
lantern festival held in Lukang uses all of
Lukang as the exhibition venue. The scope is
expanded from a point to a whole area. Larger
temples have main lanterns for arrangements.
This is the largest lantern festival, to allow
tourists to see the flower lanterns, and they
can experience the culture of Lukang.
Second, everyone can participate in
the lantern festival. We can promote the flower
lantern arts, and after these flower lanterns
are complete, they become decorations for the
temple, or decorate the public spaces in
Changhua County. This is a very meaningful
thing. |
4.What
difficulties have been encountered in holding
the Taiwan Lantern Festival? How did you
overcome them? |
Changhua County
has experienced many challenges in competing to
hold the Taiwan Lantern Festival. I would like
to encourage the students that, don¡¦t believe
the success you see started at the beginning.
Turning all of Lukang Township into a lantern
festival venue made the issue of ¡§traffic
control¡¨ very important. An important principle
was the good use of shuttles. In Lukang, many
parking lots have been constructed, hoping that
anyone who participates in the lantern festival
could experience a convenient, complete, and
robust shuttle system regardless of whether they
are driving or taking public transportation.
|
5.How
does holding the Taiwan Lantern Festival help
the locality? |
We use ¡§see Changhua in the day time, see the
flower lanterns in the night time,¡¨ so the
lantern festival in Lukang is not the only
thing, but Lukang is also interesting in the day
time. Using Lukang as the beginning has a radial
effect, not only in Lukang, but connecting all
of the scenic spots and activities in Changhua.
This is an international promotion and marketing
venture. Not only Taiwanese people can, but all
the tourists in the world have a chance to come
to Taiwan and Lukang. This can motivate local
industrial and economic development.
|
6.Which traditional and art
education activities are
Changhua County
currently promoting? |
At this time,
Changhua has many traditional music and theatre
clubs, including Nanguan, Beiguan, Qizai
theater, Gaojia theater, and Kunqu; people from
other counties and cities came to Changhua to
learn these things. In addition, in April 2008
we established the Changhua County dragon and
tiger dance promotional commission. Since we
have these traditional arts, in 2011 we reached
the top and won a spot in the Guinness World
Records with creative lion dances. Additionally,
performance groups in the county were invited,
such as traditional Taiwanese puppet theater and
Taiwanese theater, combining them with local
temple festivals and theater arts. This is how
we are working hard to pass on traditional arts
and cultures. |
7.What is your impression of
lanterns; have you held one when you were young? |
There is a
saying, ¡§Lamp lights from ten thousand
households.¡¨ Seeing lamp lights from ten
thousand homes means that under each lamp there
is ¡§family love,¡¨ ¡§family,¡¨ and ¡§warmth.¡¨
¡§Lamps¡¨ mean brightness, warmth, and hope. So, I
believe that we will work hard to make the
lantern festival successful, and in the future
it will bring endless light, warmth, and hope to
our Taiwan and our Changhua. I hope that you
will have many expectations when viewing the
lantern festival. |
8.What
suggestions and expectations do you have for our
theme production of lanterns? |
For your school
to report on lanterns as a theme, this is a
great opportunity. The time is perfect because
Changhua County has been established for 288
years, but it has never held a lantern festival
until now, and it happened that your schools is
going to work on lanterns as the topic. As for
the location, it is also perfect because Lukang
is a place with a cultural atmosphere, and a
great place for tourism. Now, your team will
have to cooperate together and do your jobs
well, incorporating the theme of lanterns into
the culture and history of Lukang, and the whole
web page will be rich, which will give you a
good chance to win awards. |
