For six decades, Mandarin Daily News has played an important role in Taiwan's newspapers history and Chinese language education. Now every elementary student has one copy in his or her classroom and even some of them have developed the reading habit by reading it every day for pleasure or as homework.

But, not everyone knows that Mandarin Daily News has won lots of awards for its achievements on education and most people have no clear idea about why and how Mandarin come to its existence.

Therefore, our project is trying to find out the answers and reclaim its history to the public. Meanwhile, we hope the public can appreciate what Mandarin Daily News has done to better our society and we can make contributions to our society in the future like Mandarin Daily News has done.

Philosophy and management of Mandarin Daily News

Mandarin Daily News is incorporated foundation. So they didn’t aim at profit. They education and didn’t want readers to pay high price.

When founding Mandarin Daily News, they want to reach the goal to promote Chinese with correct pronunciation. Therefore, they attached each word to the Chinese phonetic.

Mandarin Daily News selects the content of newspaper. They don't use improper words for children to read. Besides, they designed the newspaper and other publications exclusively for children.

Mandarin Daily News not only publishes newspaper but also publishes Young Writers Digest, Mandarin Weekly, etc. And in order to educate more people, Mandarin Daily News also founds Chinese center and culture center to open Chinese classes, which win lots of praises and trust from many parents.

History

Mandarin Daily News used to be the Peping Chinese Newspaper in China. After the move to Taiwan, it changed its name into Mandarin Daily News in order to promote mandarin education.

At the beginning, Publication Group didn't have enough money to run the business, which caused the publication process difficult. With the help of the authorities, the difficulties, finally overcome.

In 1949, Mandarin Daily News became the incorporated foundation. Because that, to Mandarin Daily News can not has private use of all assets. After became the incorporated foundation, Mandarin Daily News had a hard time. Because they didn’t have too much money. Luckily, there are many people helped Mandarin Daily News. In March,1949, Mandarin Daily News established its Board of directors.

After established Board of Directors, Mandarin Daily News’s economic had improved. In order to run business better, they built the office building of their own in Fuzhou Street meanwhile; it expanded its education from the language education to children’s education and literature.

In 1987, all classes in elementary school in Taiwan had to subscribe Mandarin Daily News. So Mandarin Daily News became the newspaper of education and achieved a large circulation.
Mandarin Daily News makes great contribution not only to mandarin education, but also to public service activities, such as founding the charity for children in remote districts.
