The lightings of the Taipei 101 building in the evening attract much
attention from its by-passers and people all over the world. To maintain
its image of the world’s tallest building, Taipei 101 spends NT$300 million
on the planning and construction of its entire lighting design. The lightings
installed on the exterior wall of Taipei 101 glitter in daylights to prevent
airplanes from crashing into it. The building protrudes the sky and twinkles
in the clouds to light up yet another beautiful view.
The assistant manager of the Taipei 101 building states that designers
were specially hired from New York for the planning of Taipei 101 exterior
wall lighting. The designers even installed “Eyebrow-shaped bulbs” on
platforms of this 8-segment building to emphasize its crests and curves.
Projector lights were installed on the top of the tower to create the
effect of torch lighting.
However, it costs to maintain such a gorgeous exterior. The exterior lighting
of the Taipei101 building alone consumes an average of 1,000 watt of electricity
an hour. Special lightings displayed on weekends even consume up to 2,000
watt of electricity an hour. On average, it costs Taipei 101 approximately
125 USD an hour to maintain its magnificent exterior lighting.
To cut down electricity cost, Taipei 101 only lights up one color per
day. Each color represents each day of the week. They are red, orange,
yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet, which represent Monday to Sunday
respectively. During the Christmas Holidays in 2005, lightings were arranged
to display the image of a Christmas tree. It was said to be the tallest
Christmas tree in Taiwan.
On the New Year’s Eve of 2005, firework displays that shot off from Taipei
101 were something everyone in the world could not wait to see. Other
than the crowds that cheered at the Taipei 101 plaza, television programs
from all over the world broadcasted the firework displays of the world’s
tallest building live on TV. We not only took pictures of the firework
displays but also videotaped the entire show as a gift for everyone to
share.
Happy Dog’s Year! Taipei 101 displayed another lighting show during Chinese
New Year to wish everyone the best luck. We also captured the image of
“the biggest new year couplets” from our homes, Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Memorial
Hall, Taipei City Hall, and Taipei City Council in order to convey Taipei
101’s beauty from different angles.
