Narrative

Project Element

1. How does our project research integrate with Grade 1-9 Curriculum?

Chinese

During the process of the research, we tried to develop some basic and important abilities, for examples, browsing project site, relevant books.  Through massive reading, we sorted the data we had read and finished our learning notes.  While writing progress report, we reviewed our learning process.  When we made the interview record, we learned how to communicate and behave, how to use effective wordings to ask our interviewees and wrote the points into our articles.  Moreover, through this process, we experienced the relationship between natural ecology of HePing River and the local society.

Social Science

Combining relevant topics of cultural lessons, we could experience and test what we had learned in class, in the meanwhile, extending our extra-curriculum materials.

Nature Science and Living Technology

We have developed the spirit of science research and the ability of project research and utilized the effective methods we found to solve problems in life.  For examples, the string of traditional Jew’s harps causes the pain of hands while playing it; therefore, we try to improve the structure of holding the string to ease the pain.

Art and Culture

In the process of doing oil painting, stone coloring and making clay models, we learned how to utilize nature resources and ordinary handy materials to create art works.  At last, we could express our ideas in mind through works and interpret our impressions of the real environment, animals and plant.

Information Education

During the process of collecting data and interviews, we learned how to use the information and multimedia facilities in our lives to solve problems we encountered, such as internet, digital cameras, recorders and computers etc.  We also learned how to integrate all these skills to become an information maker instead of a duplicator.

Environmental Education

During the process of the project, we learned the ecology and characteristics of rivers and the methods and attitudes of the aboriginal people to utilize the nature sustainably.  We understood that we had to appreciate, respect, treasure the gifts from the nature, and sustain this wonderful land while facing the environmental changes.

3. What methods do you use to play the roles as the representatives and speakers of this CyberFair project?

The purpose of the project is to let people understand the ecology of HePing River and the relationship between natural environment and the tribe.  In addition to that, we would also like people to know the variety of the river and how valuable it is.  In the end, we hope this action can sustain the possibility to environmental protection.

In this project research, every team member fulfilled every task by division of labors, through dividing into teams, discussion, collecting and sorting data, and conducting interviews together, and we learned how to apply the knowledge we gained into life.  We tested what we had learned in life.  Every interview and field trip, we found that we focused more, our asking skills became more sophisticated, and team members encouraged each other to make things more perfect.  More importantly, we cared about every detail now; whereas, we were careless at the beginning, which made the interviewees feel that we were serious and sincere.

4. What are the influences and impacts of this project to your school and the local places?

Our school is located in Siou-Lin Township, Hualien County.  Most students live near HePing Village.  Due to development of the environment, rivers near HePing Tribe hence got polluted.  Through this project research, we the deep relevance of the river to the residents.  In early times, it was the water supply to the residents and a play ground.  HePing River played an important role.

In our field trip, we could not find detailed data of HePing River, which forced us to ask the elders in the communities.  Although that made our research more difficult, we gathered and sorted our problems and then we found out how influential HePing River was.  This motivated both students and the teachers.  We felt the expectation of the river from our interviewees, the beautiful vision on this land.  Our research may not be great, but it arouses the happy memories with the river of the residents, which is the greatest reward we have in the research.

5. Website Project Copyrights

All the content was discussed by all team members; all the interview data, pictures were used with the agreement of the authors and statement of resources.

6. Discoveries, Lessons and Wonders

Although we do not have the relevant knowledge of the nature environment and geography of HePing River.  With the instructions from the teachers and experiences of collecting data from this period of time, it grew on us.  We understand more that “HePing River” is not merely a small stream near our village.  It includes the mutual memories of people getting along with nature.  In order to learn this new concept, we collected a lot of data and visited the places, which made us learn greatly and love our homeland more.
