1.  Description of Our Community

Zhongli located in Taoyuan City, is the second largest population district, the northwest part of Taiwan. It has more than four hundred thousand people. And this area is the biggest Hakka settlement.

As you wander along the street, you can spot the view of tall buildings and traditional temples. You can smell strong Hakka dishes' fragrances and hear the lovely Hakka melodies from elders. It has a strong Hakka cultural atmosphere.

No trip to Taiwan would be complete without a journey to taste Hakka dishes in Zhongli. Now get your excitement to read our project and realize our hometown in the moment.

2.  Summary of Our Project

Taiwan is a multicultural country, including many special traditional cultures and countless passionate people.

Hakka is the biggest culture in our hometown, Zhongli. The members of the project are all Hakka people and we gradually experience that our traditional culture has faded away.

We are willing to share this unique culture to everyone through this project. Hakka food also plays an important part of the culture, presents some special meanings of it and the symbol of its spirit.

Making this project, we wished to understand more about our original culture and expressed the spirit of Hakka culture worldwide. Hakka culture is not only wonderful but also valued.

4. The problems we had to overcome

First, because of Covid-19, we couldn't go to school to work on our project with partners during this winter vacation. Instead, we used Google Meet to discuss online, and posted useful information on Google classroom. Working on the Net may be a little inconvenient, but it really helped us a lot during the hard time.

Second, we are in different classes, and we don't have enough time to work on the project. It's totally a big problem for us, but we still try our best to find out our free time. Eventually, we made it and enjoyed the atmosphere between us.

Lastly, but most importantly is making the web page for our project. We need a professional person to teach us the new technology skill. And the best choice is Mr. Hsieh, the computer teacher in our school. Thanks to his help, we do finish our webpage, and we really appreciate him.

5. Our project sound bite

To meet the standards of the CyberFair theme this year, we have chosen to learn and discover Hakka traditional food in Zhongli. Through it we wanted to revoke the love of local people to their culture. Their traditional Hakka food is getting unpopular for teenagers and we needed to pour in the new idea to flourish it again.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

Our project is about Hakka culture and desserts. We hope through this project, people from different countries will know much about this culture. We did some research and had some actions like visiting a farm, joining the flea market at school and playing a game with other students at our school. Everyone we asked for help is enthusiastic to help us. For example, Mr. Chen, the CEO of Dua-ho Rice, taught us a lot of useful information about rice.

Using Internet tools is more effective because we could save and share knowledge easily, and our discussion could be saved automatically. We participated in this project, we learnt the importance of teamwork and useful skills: How to design a webpage, how to combine other teammates' opinions. We believe that all the things we learned will help us some day in the future.
