Around 160 people filled in the survey, while most of them are people aged eleven to twenty from Taiwan. The result of the survey shows that 80.6% of those people don’t know what lacquer thread sculpture is and only 19.4% of the people know the art of lacquer thread sculpture. Therefore, the team can hypothesize that most of the students in Taiwan don’t know what lacquer thread sculpture is and have never even heard about it.

In addition, 51.2% of the people knew that lacquer thread sculpture originated from mainland China. The result shows that 94.4% of the people have never seen an exhibition for lacquer thread sculpture, while only 5.6% of the people had seen it in the past. From the data, the group could tell that it would be hard to attract young audiences if the lacquer thread sculpture’s exhibition is solely about Buddhist statues. More attention will be drawn if the lacquer thread exhibition is combined with modern artworks. Since most people don’t recognize lacquer thread sculpture and have not been to a lacquer thread sculpture exhibition, the team hopes to spread the Chinese traditional art of lacquer thread to the rest of the world through the survey and the creation of the website. The team would also like to share our result and reflection of the project with the readers through the website.
