Integrating the project into school curriculum

The goal of this project is in hope of preserving historical houses on the historic records by documenting them. During the process, we learn many knowledge and skills in accordance with relative curriculum areas, as explained below:

  • Language:
    • In the process, we learn how to document citations, internet information and interview recordings, and write an organized article about them. Via communication, we can express our ideas, practice interview skills and learn how to be little reporters. While making license agreement and appreciation certificate, we can improve our writing skills. It helps us improve our hearing, speaking, reading and writing skills.
    • We also work on our Taiwanese skills, because when we visit these historical houses, these great-grandpas and grandmas telling stories only speaks Taiwanese. Most of the time we can’t understand them!
  • Social studies:
    • During this project, we visit villages and towns we have never been to in the past. We learn about geographic location and administrative divisions of Hemei Township. During the process of interview and field study, we met many different people, we learn how to talk, communicate, and make conversations with them. These are very valuable experiences for us.
    • This project meets with competence indicators of social study curriculum by Ministry of Education
    • 2-1-1  Understand the changes to neighborhood environment of your home and school.

      2-2-1  Understand historical changes to cultural environment and economic activity in where you live.

      2-2-2  Get familiar with historical sites or archaeological excavation in where you live, and appreciate the beauty of local folk culture.

  • Integrative activities:
    • We learn as a team and develop teamwork spirit. We also distribute our work on project study. Via interactive discussion and encouragement, we can supervise each other in every stage of the mission. We learn the importance of teamwork, and share the result with each other. In the research process, we also develop great chemistry and a bonding relationship. We have the same goal to work on. We also respect “Intellectual Property Rights,” and obtain license agreement legally.
  • Arts and Humanities:
    • In the process, we design many beautiful posters, promotional presentations and files. We learn how to use multimedia processing software, editing pictures and uploading onto the website. It expands our artistic vision.
  • Information technology:
    • It integrates with important issue like “information technology education.” On software, we search information and document our work progress on internet, and use software to make website,  animation, videos and pictures … On hardware, we learn about many technology products such as digital camera, digital video camcorder, drone, scanner and tablet … etc. One other thing worth mention is programming robot to play the historical house board game. It is a fun and beneficial experience. As a whole, we improve our computer skills substantially.
