Dough figurine craft and religious belief

The China's dough figurine culture has a history of more than 1340 years based on the dough figurines and pigs unearthed from the Astana Cemetery in Turpan, Xinjiang. The dough figurine is not only part of the culture and civilian art, but has a function of religious folk custom. In the "Catering" culture (which means that the organization of the oblations can be appreciated as something with aesthetics) in China's Taoism ceremony, the dough figurines are feasted to pay tribute to deities. In the past, flour was used as the raw material and a vast range of auspicious animals, offerings, folk custom performances or historical works were made into dough figurines. The craft beauty is displayed through the skills of the folk custom craftsmen.
