As for the control over weight before competitions, Mr. Jing-hung Sung highlighted strength and technique. According him, the students of junior high schools, who are in the stage of growth, should not sacrifice their physical health for an easier access to victory; instead, they should improve their techniques.

In spite of the protective clothing in the taekwondo competition, some contestants may still get injured in the first round of combat. The coach says that “getting injured is also a kind of training”. How to fight in the next round if you get injured? Only by taking some simulation exercises will the contestants be able to adapt themselves to any emergency. Mr. Yu-chi Sung, the son of Mr. Jing-hung Sung, encountered a series of failures in the 2006 Asian Games and thus thought of giving up taekwondo. Mr. Jing-hung Sung constantly encouraged him to make full use of the golden time of his life and become courageous to face difficulties and realize the value of his life.

In 2007, Mr. Yu-chi Sung won the bronze medal in the qualifying match of the Asian Area of the 2008 Olympic Games in Vietnam and got the chance to compete in the Olympic Games. In the 2007 World Taekwondo Championship, Mr. Yu-chi Sung suffered an injury in his toes in the fierce fighting. The injury was so severe that he couldn’t walk by himself. It was Mr. Jing-hung Sung who carried him on back to the lounge. Though Mr. Jing-hung Sung was sad to see that, he insisted that his son march forward with him to touch the gold medal. What a lofty spirit!

Mr. Jing-hung Sung also attaches great importance to the psychological training before and after the competition. He always encourages the contestants to be confident and determined and face competition with a positive attitude. There are always a winner and a loser in a game. If a student wins a game, he will celebrate it; if a game is lost, he would encourage the student to face it, because he regards failure as a kind of training.

A taekwondo practitioner needs to bear the pain of physical injury in training or competitions to make progress. It is indeed a tough experience.
