The research students interviewed the volunteers from Yunlin Environmental Issue Assembly, by investigating their attitudes and opinion with questionnaire survey. However, most of the volunteers refused to participate, since the literacy rate is low among the elders. This led to problems and difficulties in communication with the elders. Female represents approximately 60% environmental volunteers in Yunlin, in which more than half of them are over 60 years old, and 75% are over 50 years old. Most of the volunteers understand the methods of processing the rubbish, and relevant environment issues in Yunlin. The major ones include air pollution, space limitation, and stray cats and dogs. 65 percent of respondents state that their motivation of becoming an environmental volunteer, is hoping for a cleaner Douliu city.
Over the past 4 years, over 90% of volunteers believe that the environment has become either very clean or relatively cleaner than before. In order to reduce the amount of waste being produced, the classification and recycling of regular garbage and kitchen waste is vital. Moreover, 67% of volunteers agree to use Rinnay incinerator, while 1.7% of them disagree. It can be concluded from the survey result, that the volunteers are the pioneer that leads to a better environment. Since they have a more comprehensive view of Douliu environmental issue, they are the people who guard and protect our homeland.
