Exhibition about U-Theatre

Preparations for the Exhibition

The topic of this exhibition was U-Theatre. We couldn’t wait to share with the fellow students, so we, after the discussion with the instructor, chose the glass board, as the platform to promote on-campus activities, in the corridor near the classrooms so that students could watch the exhibition conveniently. The team members then undertook different tasks to prepare for the exhibition. The exhibition board was consisted of 8 major sections and 2 minor sections. We first measured the sizes on the site and discussed over the contents to be exhibited and the layout orientation. Upon several rounds of discussion, we gave priority to the spirit of U-Theatre and specified the other main contents as “Urban Experiences of U-Theatre”, “Culture of U-Theatre”, “Journeys around the World”, “Introduction of Drums”, “Lin-Wu Ironworks” and “The Drum Dancing Festival”, etc. The two minor sections were used for students to leave their feedback and messages.

First of all, the team members searched for ideas to design the layout. Among the elites in our team, some took charge of written introduction; some were responsible for the layout of drawings. Additionally, all that had been grasped through on-campus information courses for years was applied to this exhibition. Though this seemed to be quite simple initially, the process turned out to be unexpectedly complex and trivial. We even got sidetracked from our original direction at one time. However, everybody worked hard side by side on the production after class for many days, and finally presented all our works as we wished.

The exhibition preparation was a very important link for the overall presentation effect. A delicately-designed layout could not only attract the students’ attention but also motivate them to listen to our exhibition guide more attentively and involve in the feedback session wholeheartedly. In the preparation process, the team members reached a consensus after occasional disagreements, which made us realize more deeply the importance of team cooperation. Our ultimate aim was just to deepen the students’ understanding of culture and art through the exhibition.

Arrangement of the Exhibition Venue

To help the students understand U-Theatre better, we produced the posters by brainstorming. We searched for all kinds of materials about U-Theatre on the Internet. At first, each member, at home, conceived and organized what he or she would introduce to the students. The next, we stayed in the classroom after school, pasting the texts and pictures and adding the narrations.

On the very day of venue arrangement, we applied the double-sided tapes and clay to the back of the paper to make it sticky. The last step was pasting the paper, piece by piece, on the glass in the same order as shown in the catalog. By doing so, we finally completed the arrangement. All of us could not help but praising these remarkable accomplishments in front of us. Meanwhile, we felt so happy and touched deep inside. We succeeded eventually through solidarity and cooperation.

We must express our genuine gratitude to our teachers and parents for having instructed and helped us so painstakingly and tirelessly. We hoped that these posters could give more students a clearer picture of what U-Theatre had done and how much effort they had made. It was also our wish that the students who had watched this exhibition could actively participate in U-Theatre’s performances. Whatever good suggestions we received, we would accept them modestly with an open mind and exert ourselves for constant improvement so that we Thunder King of Drums would become stronger.

Event Promotion

This exhibition about U-Theatre was to make the students know about our topic “U-Theatre”. We spent our spare time after class in making 8 big posters which introduced many things about U-Theatre, and pasting them on several large pieces of glass in front of the classrooms. It was rather time-consuming, but all of us worked on this exhibition with full enthusiasm. After finishing this work, we promoted the books in different classes and told the students about the posters in front of the classrooms which they could appreciate after class if they were interested.

We had nine members. When the students came to watch the posters, two members would read in turns the contents aloud. After the reading, we would ask the students to write down their feedback and paste it beside the posters to share with other students. After one week, the wall was full of feedback expressed in words or illustrations—all of that recorded how they felt and thought about the exhibition. We ourselves also benefited a lot from reading those feedback. Having little knowledge about U-Theatre, many students really wanted to know more about this team. The students listened to the oral introduction very carefully and thus benefited a great deal.

For the sake of this exhibition, we specially made the QR code so that more students could directly connect to the official website of U-Theatre and learn about U-Theatre’s contribution to arts and the society. This exhibition was a great success. We spent a lot of time and energy on it, but both we team members and the students benefited greatly from it. This was the first time that we members had produced 8 large-sized posters by hand and quickly summarized and introduced the key points of these 8 posters to the students. Such experience strengthened our team cooperation and solidarity.
