The process of pineapple’s growth.
In the campus, we selected an acre of land, planted pineapple’s seedling, and took care of them carefully.
The notification of choosing land: Pineapple is suitable to grow on red soil, because grass is not easy to grow on it. So far, red soil is the best soil for pineapple. Moreover, pineapple can be rotten, if it is panted on wet land or moisted soil. It is rare to see pineapple’s seed, because farmers use child plant to grow new ones.
Planting:It takes an year to harvest pineapple. Once child plant are cut off, mother plant has to be destroied. After that, child plants will be gathered to plant in fields.
Soil preparation and fertilization:If pineapple is not planted on stable soil, it cannot absorb enough nutrition for growing. Thus, soil preparation is crucial for its growth. Besides that, ferilizer has to be used on proper time. Different ferilizers have different usage on pineapple. Some of them are for leaves’ growth, some of them for its flower.
Before planting, the soil has to be flipped and covered with black canvas. In this way, grass will not grow beside pineapple, and then dig holes on canvas to put buds in. These pineapple are waiting for rain to grow, and have to wait an year and half to be reaped. One bud can only grow one pineapple. Nevertheless, there will be plenty harvest in this field.
Planting and carePineapple has to be planted on good drainage field to prevent root’s rotten. However, it still needs ample water supplement during its growing period. Even though pineapple is a Drought-tolerant plant, it needs a hat to avoid sunburn. After an year, farmers will use Calcium carbide to help it growth.

Pineapple is not suitable for storage, and is not easy to accelerate the ripening either. Unripened and overripe fruits can affect its quality. Farmers use the fruit’s looks to tell its maturity stage. Ripe ones have a yellow skin, and unripe ones have a green skin. Besides that, farmers flip on a pineapple to hear its sound, because the sound can show its maturity. Pineapples should be reaped carefully because of its fragile skin. Therefore, manual harvesting is required to classify the fruits. These process consume lots of time and manpower, which could cause errors on pineapple’s selection. These inaccuracies affect the sale price and distribution time.
Putting a cap on a pineapple can prevent it to get sunburn.
The seasons of harvesting pineapple are April to June.
