The field survey. In our hometown - Tainan, there is a special fruit - pineapple, which has a furious look but has a sweet taste inside. For further understanding it, we have studied the history of Tainan’s pineapple. Besides that, we have interviewed the farmers and have done many field trips. Through their sharing and students’ experiences, we had different points of views on the king of fruits.
We interviewed grandpa Hsu, who plants Apple pineapples, and his two grand sons study in our school. Thus, grandpa gave us loads of supports on this activity.

Q: When was pineapple imported in Kuanmiao? The reasons of planting in Kuanmiao.
A：
(1)Kuanmiao’s pineapple was imported from Taitung. Because the economy was hard, farmers wanted to plant the fruits with high economic values to earn more money. Pineapple is one of them. Army Moutain was the first place to plant pineapple.
(2)Grandpa told us that Army Moutain’s hillsides face to the sun, and have a good drainage system. Therefore, these factors are the reasons of producing good quality pineapples in Kuanmiao.
(3) Apple Pineapple is grandpa Hsu’s precious treasure, and he is so proud of it. He told us the reason of the name is that the pineapple has the smell of apple.
We interviewed Mr Liu, planting pineapple in the community for eleven years. He plants Diamond Pineapple, which has safe fruit certification because of its organic planting techniques.

Q: What are the affects of pineapple to Kuanmiao district?
A ：
(1) The properous development of Kuanmiao pineapple is attributed to Kuanmiao’s location, Place of origin near moutain area. Pineapple can grow better on the hillside. Therefore, Kuanmiao’s pineapple is rather popular than other areas. Besides that, Kuanmiao’s pineapple cake is also become a souvenir, which cannot be missed in Taiwan.
(2)Kuanmiao pineapple production accounts for about a quarter of Taiwan 's pineapple. Moreover, the quality improvement of Kuanmiao pineapple is making it more popular, and it becomes the icon idustry in Kuanmiao. However, there was no different types of pineapple in Kuanmiao, and Soil Pineapple was the only one back then. After many years later, due to the advance of technology and progress of education, different types of pineapple are borned in Taiwan. Besides that, farmer have found a solution to plant good quality pineapple on level ground. After that, pineapple has become a common fruit in Taiwan. Nevertheless, speaking of delicious pineapple, Kuanmiao pineapple is still the first one people will think of.

In recent years, local bakeries start to use pineapple as a baking material. Pineapple cake is the most famous one. Due to Kuanmiao pineapple’s special flavor, this dessert has become very popular and been sold to whole world. Grandpa Hsu told us that Soil Pineapple is the perfect filling for pineapple cake, because the taste is sweet and a little sour.
