Visiting thoughts and conclusion

1.        Animal shelters

As the animal shelter is close by our school, it was very convenient for us to get there, with the help of our teacher's arrangement, we interviewed their vet, understanding that they set their priority on neutering, registration, and fulfilling the Animal Protection Act, as well as improving the equipment’s and the facility’s quality and standards, promoting the use of kind treatment , and animal testing laboratories etc. And also urge the promotion of stray dogs at schools all around the county, and requesting each school to come and visit, to see what it’s really like at the animal shelters. The shelters smelled horrible and their living environment is prison like, we were permitted to use masks and were told that we could leave if we couldn’t take the smell, but knowing that dogs’ scent is 4 time better than human, they must be in even more pain, we feel pity for them.

Because our research is based on stray dogs, we visited the animal shelters regularly, and learned a lot about dogs, and the shelter only provides temporary animal shelter, during their stay, volunteered staff trained and managed them, waiting to heal or cleaned, so they can attend adoption events, or sent to other shelters to live in, if the stray dog is injured heavily or incurable, they are euthanized. We know how difficult it must feel to euthanize them for these staffs, therefore we hope that people would adopt more rather than purchasing dogs, more adoption less abandonment.

2.        Visiting association of NCUE

As our we have entered the research of cyberfair, our teachers supported u, and started an adoption program. Firstly our teacher arranged for us to visit association of NCUE, the main purpose was to help us understand how to look after dogs.

We understood that association of NCUE was created to resolve stray dogs problem that the school had, after their success in applying for a dog shelter made, they thought of a few dog managing techniques, for example, member sorted out their dogs by their characteristics and habits, then gave them different color, red, yellow, green collars accordingly, where green collar meant, well behaved, safe, unaggressive and can have a wider active area around the school, and red collar meaning that the dog has either strong territorial control, aggressive and should not be wondering around at school, and needed to be isolated and taken care of, and lastly, dogs with yellow collar means that these dogs still need to be examined, and should not leave the shelter. They said that dogs are like humans, with different tempers and characteristics, and each should be given a different method of care according to what they are like, so they can grow and live happily.

In order to improve their management, each dog has its own name, and is fed, cleaned under morning and evening shifts. Dog are taken to the vet to be vaccinated and neutered, as well as teaching them a few basic tricks, such as ‘sit’, ‘shake hand’, which will help them bond with humans better. This visit really helped had great implications towards our plan on adopting and taking care of a dog.
