Nostalgic Rural Fun - camphor Trail

Camphor Trail is the first gentle type of trail in Taipei, the full-length is about 1.1 km, there is no stairs, a suitable trail for family to hike. The transportation of this trail is very convenient, it’s around 100 meters from the cable car station to get to the trail entrance, along the trail there are both imagery tea culture and rural culture, such as rotatable barn, tea scented piggery. The local resident Grandma Chang sells roasted yam, as well as the boss of DaGuanYuan restaurant, and this trail is recommended by the uncles & aunts of Public Works Department as well.

Camphor Trail initially from the local baojia road, Taiwan once was known as the Kingdom of camphor, camphor is considerable demand in the past, there are many camphor trees along the trail, therefore a large number of species of camphor forest, so when set up the trail named "camphor tree", currently at the trail about 1 kilometer, the tree still can be seen as well, therefore, the name of “camphor tree” and the actual camphor trees became a witness to local history.

Go right ahead from the Maokong cable car station, you can see the trail of camphor indicators. Firstly will see the Acacia charcoal kilns, there is a note to explain about the kiln, in the past, the charcoal kilns is very important relation to the people, when the fire of kiln been raised, then the fire can’t be put out for 24 hours can’t burn exuberant, there is a sentence next record saying in Taiwanese: "Husband to watch out the kiln for 7 days, wife do by swift as well, they did not sleep together in 7 days, then their belly like full of fire due to get angry" is it very funny?
In opposite of acacia charcoal kiln, there is a tea scent piggery and many pig sculpts inside the piggery, they look like alive, next there are carving tools even has a hopscotch grid, it is entire sense of the former farm.

To walk through the alley around the DaGuanYuan restaurant and ChaYenGuanShe tea house will reach the Camphor Trail entrance, walk slowly then you can find the flowers planted by the Public Works Department, the cosmos in fall/winter, Lupin flowers in Spring, especially the lupin flower carpet is very famous scenery on the Camphor trails. This is green manure plan which cooperate by Public Works Department and the local farmers, in order to raise fallow land, in the other side to attract tourists to visit the flower carpet.
End of view flowers, you can see the cute oxcart, many children will take the photo with oxcart, this oxcart is special meaning of Reminiscence to the farm, in previous, the buffalo hardworking for farm, it’s very important to the farm, now the buffalo sculpt show very well of the rural appearance.

In the camphor tree trail, we can feel the greenery around, full of duckweed ecological pond, where you can observe frogs and aquatic insects in a small world of ecology. Go forward, you can see the Color Clouds pavilion which both for rest and sightseeing function, there are 2 floors in this big pavilion, often use for public activities, the pavilion will daily play music hourly from 9am to 5pm! The waterwheel next to Color Clouds pavilion is a great background for photography which is people's favorite, while the mirror pond beside the waterwheel, is a good place considerable for viewing fish and enjoy the reflect viewing.

Walk down to the Mirror pond, you can see the Maple Pavilion, fall scenery is very distinctive, then walked around to the barn is the children's favorite place, this barn is an open style pavilion, it’s easy to turn the barn with just a little power, it’s really fun to us.

Then move forward a little bit, you can see Shaking foot pavilion, where is wide vision, because of high chair then we can shake the foot on above freely and feeling vent. Previously, people always using rush grass to make straw mats, from Shaking Foot pavilion onward a bit to seen the Rush Grass pavilion, which decorated with a grass hat and looks like a scarecrow, it reminds us remember the story of Ms. Hong Yang on our textbook.

Next, we'll see the old camphor house, the camphor trees surround the house, which witness to the history of camphor, also witness the story of Taiwan was once known as the kingdom of camphor, the old house retains architectural style of the old building, let people take rest and nostalgic, the Wenshan big vegetable at side, is emphasizing a healthy organic garden, using natural farming methods to grow crops, the wooden sign showing their idea "To eat the vegetables plant by themselves", it teachs we should cherish the earth resources and the concept of ecology and sustainable land.
