History of Drawing Lots

According to legend, drawing lots began in the Tang Dynasty. A Wuman Nationality wizard called Bi Shan Ju Ji in Yizhou, who divined with 49 bamboo chips, that is the beginning of drawing lots. For the record of Yu Hu Qing Hua in 9th century: Lu Duohsun, a prime minister of the Five Dynasties, who drew lots in Yun Yang Temple at his young age, then the prediction came true. Since he was born in the later Tang Dynasty and there was the lot pot on old altar in his childhood. Thus it can be inferred that the action of praying and drawing lots at a temple appeared in Later Tang Dynasty at latest.

The First Statement:

Astrology was an accurate fortune telling method founded at the end of the Ming Dynasty and revised, replenished and modified by many predecessors such as BaiYuchan and Anonymity, which has been suffering oppression since invented by Chen Xiyi. Chinese are accustomed to hold back a trick or two, so the present Astrology related information is different from Chen Xiyi’s original work. Now the Qing Dynasty woodcut Astrology written by Chen Xiyi is the most complete Astrology book.

History of Picking Time Theory

According to legend, Chinese Calendar was created by Yellow Emperor. It was produced on basis of Chinese lunar calendar which included something indicated good or bad luck. The main content of Chinese Calendar are date lists of twenty-four Solar Terms, each day’s good or ill luck, compatibility and incompatibility of drugs ,and any of the twelve animals and fortunes, etc. Chinese earliest date selecting book that included in book Da Dai Li Ji appeared in the Xia Dynasty. The history of name theory could be traced back to Shao Yong’s Huang Ji Jing Shi Shu in the Song Dynasty, which concerned five notes, four tones, words rhyme and figure melody. Then Tsai Jiufeng, who was contemporary with Shao Yong, pioneered the Eighty-one Name and Number Map discussing good or ill luck of strokes. Until modern times, Kumasaki Kenou from Japan, in the light of Tsai Jiufeng’s work, created the new book Kumasaki through slightly revise. Bai Huiwen, a Japanese Taiwan students studying in Japan, with consent of Kumasaki Kenou, translated Kumasaki into Chinese with the name of Fate of Chinese Name, Mystery of Name Science, etc. and transmitted it back to the Chinese world.

History of Divination

Divination and fortune telling which was many readers’ required course was widespread since ancient times, especially in the Spring and Autumn Period. They often hold I-Ching for studying, divination and prediction. The literary quotation "Study Diligently" originated from the story that Confucius read I-Ching.
