Sewing machine

Sewing machine was invented by France poor tailor, Barthélemy Thimonnier. In 1830, he used wood to make the first sewing machine in the world. Few years later, Elias Howe, from America, improved the design of sewing machine. However, while Howe claimed his invention in America, Isaac Merritt Singer made an even better sewing machine in an industry in Boston, and further founded the Singer Sewing Machine Company in 1851. Howe heard the news and had a lawsuit with Singer for the patent. The outcome is that Howe won the patent of sewing machine in 1856, and Singer had to pay the Massachusetts inventor, Howe, 25 dollars patent fee for each machine. Even though Singer did not win the lawsuit, his company still became the largest sewing machine company in the world.

Zhang Deyi described the sewing machine as “looks like a tea table with keys on the top and bottom. The top surface has a needle spot vertically, and following by a axle with strings. When tailing, put the cloth under the needle, control the bottom key with foot. Then needle and string will sew automatically with fast speed.”
