1. How did your activities and research for this Cyberfair Project support standards, required coursework, and curriculum standards?

The purpose of the project “The Glory Of Love” is to introduce Immaculate Heart Center for Mentally Handicapped to the people and the society through the process of research and interview. While the students explored the information about the research, they were involved in their surrounding environment, and learned the background and development of the charity institution. During the study, they learned to work with others and to actively solve problems. These are in accordance with the education philosophy of Grade 1-9 Curriculum.

Match the learning domain:

Chinese&English Language Through interviews and translation, our oral ability and writing ability are improved. While writing website text, feedbacks, and book reports, we check the diction, grammar, and syntax.
Art and Humanity & Integrative Domain We helped to feed the students at Immaculate Heart Center for Mentally Handicapped and helped the cooks prepare meals. We also learned how to make pickled vegetables. By selling pickled vegetables and ox-tongue cake, we learned the art of talking.
Society Sister You is from Korea. After learning that her hometown is a strange country to us, we asked her a lot of questions about Korea. We are curious why a young Korean girl would leave her dear family for an island far away. We were also surprised at the power of religion. Sister You came here because of God's will. We had better understanding about Catholic church.
Science and Life Technology Manipulating technological facilities, Designing the website.

2.What has been the impact of your project on your community ?

In order to improve the campus atmosphere and promote students' virtue, we gathered together to compete in the International Cyberfair. We suggested the dean of our student affair office to hold several activities, like jumble sale, volunteer service, and the flea market. Students in my school know more about the charity institution by joining these charitable activities. We also know more about the Catholic charity institution by joining its volunteer activities. Then, we spread our thoughts through our actions and motivate people around to join the volunteer activities and pay more attention to the disabled.

4. In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your Cyberfair project both on-line and in person?

We interviewed Sister You, the leader of Immaculate Heart Center for Mentally Handicapped, vice-director, Mr. Lee, teachers and therapists, volunteers at the cneter. We told them our goals to improve the campus atmosphere and promote students' virtue and stop bullying. We call parents and students in our school to donate secondhand goods and do volunteer service to let more people know about the charity. It conveys our intention of improving the atmosphere around us. We hope that we can have responses from more people.

We participated in one-day volunteer experience in order to experience what the charity intends to convey to the public, and have further contact with the Catholic institution and its participants.

We held various activities related to the concept of helping others through our club, including “jumble sale”, “volunteer service”, and “the flea market”. We hope that the change of our school culture can start from us.

We visited Immaculate Heart Center for Mentally Handicapped in order to know more about its activities and impact on the disabled people.

5. Contribution to the local community :

Our project theme is to learn about the concepts of helping others, and explore the possibilities of encouraging more people to engage in the charitable activities, and highlight the features of our school. Besides, we want to let more people know that there is a peaceful place-Immaculate Heart Center for Mentally Handicapped in my hometown for you and me to stay for a while when you are down.

6. Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises:

First, it takes a very long time to make webpages and organize materials. We tried our best to complete the tasks and being efficient because we will have Comprehensive Assessment Program for Junior High School Students, an entrance exam, three months later. We assigned tasks to everyone and helped each other as possible as we can. However, problems kept emerging when the deadline comes near. We kept reminding each other about time management and the importance of work planning. Time management and planning are the biggest lessons we learned. Besides, translation is a tough job. We tried to translate the articles on our own, but there were many errors. So, we worked in pairs to check the spelling, and syntax. At the same time, we asked English teachers in our school for help. Thanks them for revising our mistakes. I also leaarned a lesson that we need to study English harder. Last, I found there were many good little people in the world. They did goodness without asking reward. They were really heroes and heroines.
