Summary from the interview with the ex-director,Zheng-Hong Xie .

During the interview with the director, he introduced a lot of the history of Chung-Cheng Hall to us. He said that there was once a water tunnel in Beidou Junior High School, but it was dismantled. It was such a pity. Besides, during the Japanese -Occupied period, thanks to the insistence of the principal, a big banyan originally planned to be cut after the demolition of the tunnel was kept. Furthermore, Beidou Junior High School was a combination of an elementary school and a home economics school in the past. Later on, it was turned into a primary school. And it becomes what it is now. The director knows a lot about Beidou Junior High School and Chung-Cheng Hall. His profound knowledge is really impressive. All the interviewers including me learned a lot from him.

The reflection of the interview with the director,Zheng-Hong Xie.

Director Hsieh knows the history of Chung-Cheng Hall well, either before or after the construction. He has a good memory of the old names of many places and lots of anecdotes. He even told us the origins of those old names. This made us know the past well as if we went back to Japanese-Occupied Period by the time machine. (Rou-Syuan Wu )

I wasn't at present when they did the interview. By the recording, I had the idea of the content of the interview. I thought Director Hsieh knew the history well, and he made a clear introduction to us. He even told us the origin of the lyrics" "in our school anthem. After that, we wanted to prove what he said, so we tried to find a place where we could see the Mt. Jade in the school. And we saw it without doubt. (Yi-Zhen Li )

Director Hsieh was interviewed by us today, and he introduced a lot about the history of Chung-Cheng Hall and Beidou Junior High School. Summary of the interview with Miss He-Yu Wu

Today we interview one of the teachers in our school, Miss Wu. According to her, Chung-Cheng Hall was once an activity center, but later it was used by the choir for practice. Some musical competitions were also held there. After the hall was repaired, it was used to hold concerts and many kinds of activities. And now most of the time, it's a band practice room. Chung-Cheng Hall now is an old building. When the number of students is increasing, the space of Chung-Cheng Hall is comparatively smaller. Besides, the building materials isn't good for heat dissipation. One year, students even bathed in the wind and rain when having the graduation ceremony in Chung-Cheng Hall. Chung-Cheng Hall was once decided to be dismantled, but thanks to the opposition and insistence of those alumni, it was kept.

Reflections of the interview with Miss He-Yu Wu

The interview with Miss Wu was fun and full of humor. I learned more about the present and the past of Chung-Cheng Hall concerning the arts. Though we spent the least time to do the interview with Miss Wu, the interview was indeed to the points. She informed us that many performances and practices took place in Chung-Cheng Hall before. The interviewer is one of the music teachers in our school, Miss He-Yu Wu. Miss Wu conducts the concert band in Chung-Cheng Hall. She is a well-experienced teacher, so we spent time doing the interview with her. At first, Miss Wu told us the past of Chung-Cheng Hall. All kinds of activities including speeches, competitions, ceremonies, and choir practice took place there. Miss He-Yu Wu is the adviser of the school concert band and she is one of the few teachers who use Chung-Cheng Hall. During the interview, she talked most about the ways students use Chung-Cheng Hall, such as holding graduation ceremonies and speeches. Those events in the past are the precious memories for now. The research we did on Chung-Cheng Hall this time isn't only for the competition but we did think about the future of Chung-Cheng Hall. We hope this old building can show people its glory again. Summary of the interview with Miss Hui-Li Fu

For the use of simulated tests, there were lots of tests held in Chung-Cheng Hall. But now it's no longer used for the tests because of the reform of the educational system, 12-year compulsory schooling. At that time, when it rained, the school assembly would be held in Chung-Cheng Hall. The outside appearance of Chung-Cheng Hall didn't change a lot, but the inside part which has been repaired is different from it used to be. Overall, Chung-Cheng Hall is a well-kept historical building. Chung-Cheng Hall was seen as an activity center before. There should be one activity center in every school, so Chung-Cheng Hall was built for that purpose. All kind of activities were held in Chung-Cheng Hall, which includes calligraphy competitions, painting competitions, giving vaccination, health check, and so on.

Reflections of the interview with Miss Hui-Li Fu

After interviewing Miss Fu, I learned more about Chung-Cheng Hall, including the history, the past and the present. At first, I thought that it was just a place for the assembly. Though the space in Chung-Cheng Hall wasn't big enough, it was the most important place for the assembly then. Summary of the interview with Director Mei-Ling Xiao

Director Xiao is an alumna of our school, and she also teaches in this school. She has taught in our school for 23 years and Chung-Cheng Hall means a lot to her. In the past, every events in Beidou Junior High School and Beidou Town were held in Chung-Cheng Hall, including award ceremonies, propaganda, orientations, graduation ceremonies and so on. Chung-Cheng Hall was once the biggest auditorium in the southern Changhua in 1960s. It was built by local rich people in Beidou. Chung-Cheng Hall was repaired because of the problem of leaking. But it was still not big enough.

Reflections of the interview with Dirctor Mei-Ling Xiao

Director Xiao told us that the problem of leaking in Chung-Cheng Hall is serious. But in spite of this, Chung-Cheng Hall is full of people's memories, so Chung-Cheng Hall became a historical monument by the help of the principal. It's not only a simple place for assemblies but a good memory of the old. I hope that Chung-Cheng Hall can be used for exhibitions which makes it glorious again. (Rou-Syuan Wu)

Director Xiao is the second one among those who teach in this school for a long time without concluding the retired teachers. Furthermore, she graduated from this school, so she has lots of memories. She thinks the school should keep some old buildings or spots for the alumni in case that they can't find something familiar. Maybe this is the reason why Chung-Cheng Hall was repaired. The person we interview today is Director Mei-Ling Xiao, who was a student in our school before. According to her, the problem of leaking in Chung-Cheng Hall troubled. Once upon a time, it was a rainy day when students had a graduation ceremony in Chung-Cheng. Everybody hid themselves from the raindrops. She also mentioned that if Chung-Cheng Hall can be open to the public, it can be used as a place for exhibitions. It's a pity that it doesn't work. I learned a lot from this interview. Director Mei-Ling Xiao is an alumna of our school. The content of this interview mainly focused on the memories of Chung-Cheng Hall. After listening to her ideas, I recalled that the first time I went to Chung-Cheng Hall was for the health check. According to the school nurse, the distance to Chung-Cheng Hall is shorter than the new activity center. She is one of the best alumni in Beidou Junior High School. Besides, she has been a teacher in our school for twenty-three years, so it's quite suitable for us to interview her. And many policemen in southern Changhua go to our school for a jog or a physical training because there is a 400-kilometer standard track which is the longest in southern Changhhua in our school. Interview abstract of ex-director of student affairs, Liu Mao-ping

Chung-Cheng hall was built in September, 1960. At that time, there wasn't any big hall in our school, and students fell down in a faint because of the blazing sun when there were weekly assemblies or extensive activities. Therefore, the then principal encouraged local personalities and students to willing donate to build Chung-Cheng hall. It was said that Cloud Gate Dance Theatre had ever shown in Chung-Cheng hall, but generally speaking, there were graduation ceremonies being held in it mostly.

Thoughts of Mr. Mao-ping Liu's Interview

The retired director of student affairs, Mao-ping Liu, told us that Cloud Gate Dance Theatre had ever shown in Chung-Cheng hall which made me deeply realize how important the Chung-Cheng hall was before. He also told us the reasons why Chung-Cheng hall fell into a decline including the narrow space, sultry in it in summer, the poor acoustic equipment, and so on. Actually, I think all of these problems can be improved; by the way, I hope the new generation can recognize Chung-Cheng hall and treasure this historical site! (Rou-Syuan Wu )

According to this interview, we found that there was another hall prior to the Chung-Cheng hall. Chung-Cheng hall was built also owing to the narrow space of the previous hall. Director Liu told us there were many wedding ceremonies being held in Chung-Cheng hall before. This time, we followed Dr. Xie Rui-Rong to visit inner Chung-Cheng hall to recognize its inside and outside structures. Dr. Xie had a thoroughly guidance, we had never heard of what he told in the past. His guidance was from the period of Japanese occupation to nowadays including the characteristics of Chung-Cheng halls. Although the guidance time wasn't very long, but we still learned a lot. Besides, he knows about the history of Beidou very well, so we decided to have an interview with him. He introduced us what happened in Beidou in the period of Japanese occupation and the restoration time; he even introduced Chung-Cheng hall's characteristics to us. Interview of Miss Lin Mei-Hong

Miss Lin Mei-Hong told us that Chung-Cheng hall is the best stage for show practices to her because it has many similar functions to a large stage. She considered there could be some static shows or activities in Chung-Cheng hall; she thought the display boards in Chung-Cheng hall could have various functions. She supposed that Chung-Cheng hall not only could be a historic site but also many other well-used purposes. (Rou-Syuan Wu )

This time, our interviewee is Miss Lin Mei-Hong who is not only a performing arts teacher but also the manager of school equipments in academic office. Therefore, our interview focused on the future functions of Chung-Cheng hall.

We asked Miss Lin what kind of activities should be held in Chung-Cheng hall, she told us there could be some exhibitions since there are display boards. In addition, she hopes Chung-Cheng hall could be the performing arts classroom in the future when it is open. Then we asked her what's the different between the new student activity center and Chung-Cheng hall, she told that the new student activity center had more functions, and no matter the stage or the space is much bigger than Chung-Cheng hall, so the new student activity center is more convenient.

After the interview, I thought about the reasons why Chung-Cheng hall fell into a decline. Not only the equipment but also the space in Chung-Cheng hall is not as good as the new architectures, and then it was replaced and fell into a decline. I think that if we want everybody to know Chung-Cheng hall is a historic site in Beidou, then the Chung-Cheng hall there should be some distinguishing characteristics. I think there should be a projector in Chung-Cheng hall if possible. If there is a projector, we may invite the public in our community to watch the films about Chung-Cheng hall to increase its fame. Miss Lin Mei-Hong is not only a performing arts teacher but also the manager of school equipments. Miss Lin thought the stage in Chung-Cheng hall is quite suitable for performing arts classes because it is close to performing arts classroom and we often need a stage in performing arts classes. Miss Lin Mei-Hong had a clear analysis about the functions of Chung-Cheng hall; she distinguished Chung-Cheng hall and the new student activity center into dynamic and static use. Chung-Cheng hall could be used in static shows and exhibitions or other activities. She talked about a lot of her own opinions about Chung-Cheng hall, and she also suggested us the next interviewee- Mr. Qiu Zhong-Min who is the secretary of school catering. In this interview, Miss Lin Mei-Hong explained the difference between Chung-Cheng hall and the new Student Activity Center . Since Miss Lin Mei-Hong is not only a performing arts teacher but an alumnus of Beidou junior high school, she is quite impressed by Chung-Cheng hall and has many feelings about it deeply. She suggested that Chung-Cheng hall could be more multiple used; for example, the southern Changhua cultural and artistic gallery could let the stage in Chung-Cheng hall be used for the stage in performing arts classes. She explained the different uses in all kinds of subjects to intensify the space use of Chung-Cheng hall to us, but all of these must base on the license of using. Interview of the secretary of school catering, Mr. Qiu Zhong-Min

The secretary of school catering, Mr. Qiu Zhong-Min told me the past uses of Chung-Cheng hall, no matter the karaoke games or meatball eating games were in it. As a matter of fact, there were all kinds of activities being held in Chung-Cheng hall which made me aware of its glorious time before. I feel sorry for that Chung-Cheng hall is replaced by many new activity centers. I wish we could popularize Chung-Cheng hall by this activity. (Rou-Syuan Wu )

Our today's interviewee is Mr. Qiu Zhong-Min, he referred to Chung-Cheng hall's functions before, such as an important assembly place and playing some films. There were many local significant activities being held in it, even the wedding ceremonies. Mr. Qiu also told that Chung-Cheng hall went to rack and ruin as time goes by. Thanks to the ex-principal, Mr. Huang Kai-Cheng's efforts; he pushed the bureau of culture and some councilors to reconstruct Chung-Cheng hall as what we have seen now. In the meanwhile, we also talked about why Chung-Cheng hall fell into a decline; he said that most people in Beidou didn't know Chung-Cheng hall is a historic spot and there wasn't activity being held in it any more. So Mr. Qiu suggested us to hold activities in it to let others know about “Chung-Cheng hall is a historic spot”. (LI,PEI-MIN)

In this interview, Mr. Qiu told a funny story which was that a “meatball eating game” was once be held in Chung-Cheng hall. It's our first time to hear of the news. I never think there would be such a game in Chung-Cheng hall. I always consider there are only some art exhibitions would be held in it except the school activities. (LI,I-CHEN )

Interview of director Chang Jia-Xun

Director Chang Jia-Xun told us many problems about Chung-Cheng hall and its functions, etc. He let us know what should be improved in Chung-Cheng hall in the future and provided us a lot of information both what and how to be improved. We appreciated director Chang Jia-Xun, we will try our best to popularize the architecture of Chung-Cheng hall. (Rou-Syuan Wu )

We interviewed director Chang Jia-Xun at this time, the director told that because there wasn't any inner activity space in Beidou junior high school then, people built Chung-Cheng hall, and it had finally become an important community assembly place. He said that the constructors couldn't be known, but the funds mostly come from students and local personalities' donation and the school grant. After his words, I realized people's hope for Chung-Cheng hall at that time.

After watching this film, I felt the director knew well about Chung-Cheng hall, and I think the open of Chung-Cheng hall is coming. Although there are still many things should be better, but I have confidence in that as long as we try our best then it will reopen. (LI,PEI-MIN)

This interview place is the rock table opposite to Chung-Cheng hall, the director helped us with the lacked data. He told us the backstage crews of Chung-Cheng hall's construction and how many art and cultural exhibitions were held in it. After interviewing Mr. Qiu Zhong-Min, we interviewed the director of general affairs , Mr. Chang Jia-Xun, and we were fulfilled today. He said that Chung-Cheng hall doesn't have enough equipment because of the willing donation. For example, there isn't a restroom in Chung-Cheng hall, and then people have to use school's restrooms. On the other hand, Chung-Cheng hall will be opened when it pass the fire protection test. I was fulfilled from this interview. (CHEN,YU-HSIEN)

After interviewing the two teachers we continued to interview the third teacher, director Chang Jia-Xun. He provided us many data and references of Chung-Cheng hall. The director referred there weren't enough equipment inside Chung-Cheng hall;the worst of all was that there wasn't a restroom in it. Therefore, it was very inconvenient for the visiting people. After interviewing Miss Lin Mei-Hong and Mr. Qiu Zhong-Min, we went to the rock chair at once because director Chang Jia-Xun is waiting for us to interview. Because the manager of Chung-Cheng hall is the maintenance director, we interviewed him about the structure, the use and many things about Chung-Cheng hall, he especially referred that there wasn't a restroom in it and the visiting people only could use school's restrooms. Summary from the interview of the ex-principal, Mr. Huang Kai-Cheng

We asked the ex-principal, Huang Kai-Cheng, why he kept Chung-Cheng hall instead of tearing it down, he told that there were full of many people's memories, if it was destroyed, and then people would not be able to go back to the memorial place. We all considered the ex-principal Huang Kai-Cheng was right in his choice. After the ex-principal, Huang Kai-Cheng's response, we thought the principal himself also had many memories in Chung-Cheng hall, and then he decided to keep it. Thanks to his right choice or we won't have the historic spot, Chung-Cheng hall, now.

I could understand the desire that the ex-principal, Huang Kai-Cheng has from this interview, he really hopes to reopen Chung-Cheng hall. We appreciate the principal listed Chung-Cheng hall into a historic spot, in this way, Chung-Cheng hall could still here without destroying and rebuilding. The ex-principal applied to the bureau of culture for regarding Chung-Cheng hall as a historic construction, and in this way, it could avoid being torn down. It's the best way to keep Chung-Cheng hall. The ex-principal is a man of great vigor; he was not only the principal and an alumnus of Beidou junior high school but also the director general of Beidou cultural association. He had told the importance of keeping historic and cultural spot, the pity of Beidou was also referred. He had an idea just like others which is that culture is related to education. He had a further sight in the future, he wished Chung-Cheng hall could be as the same as the southern Changhua cultural and artistic gallery. (Johnson Wei)

The interview of the ex-principal, Huang Kai-Cheng, was really a wonderful experience, the contents of the interview was very plentiful. He referred that it's very bad that we still couldn't get the using license of Chung-Cheng hall; however he reminded us that we should be eager to get the using license actively in stead of ignoring it as “a gallery of mosquitoes”. Thus the ex-principal Huang Kai-Cheng provided various great ideas to us, such as the further functions of Chung-Cheng hall in the future. Interview of the present principal- Mr. Li Bi-Yao.

Today we interviewed the present principal- Mr. Li Bi-Yao. The principal said that he wants to turn Chung-Cheng hall into the southern Changhua cultural and artistic gallery as possible, he would like to hold some more significant exhibitions in Chung-Cheng hall. He also simply introduced us the structure of the new activity center. I have learned a lot from this interview. (CHEN,YU-HSIEN)

I learned a lot from the interview of the present principal, Mr. Li Bi-Yao. He doesn't want to let Chung-Cheng hall become an empty hall, although many people in school said Chung-Cheng hall is “a gallery of mosquitoes” for fun.
