For a century Huwei Sugar Mill has been established, creating sweet and unforgettable memories for the people. The one hundred- year – old chimney, which is the most significant landmark of the area, still remains standing straight in the Huwei town. However, Taiwan’s agriculture has declined during the period of time based on the increase of labor cost. This also caused a huge impact on Taiwan Sugar Company, more and more sugar mills were shut down, and the large area of sugar cane were developed as other profitable usage.

One of the common usages is to selling and lending the land. Victoria Academy was established in the year of 2000, which locates on the land owned by Taiwan Sugar Company. Therefore, we would like to trace back to the original source, the Huwei Sugar mill, which brought a whole century of flourishing and prosperous period.

“The Huwei town will not exist without Huwei Sugar Mill.” said the employee of the company confidently.

Most of the sugar mills in Taiwan have shut down one by one throughout the time. Nevertheless, the image of the full- loaded trains running, and children chasing across the sugar cane field, still remain in many elders’ memory. We hope to maintain this magnificent culture during the progress.
