| We chose Din Tai Fung to be the topic of our research project because we all agreed that Din Tai Fung was one of the best restaurants in Taiwan. I also desired to eat the food from Din Tai Fung. Therefore, we decided to discover the legend of Din Tai Fung. Next, we designed a questionnaire in order to know the impression of the restaurant from elementary school students. We politely asked the students from grade 3 to 6 at our school to accomplish the questionnaires for us. Then we analyzed the data and used the results for our further research. Moreover, Edward and I started working on the questions to interview Chef A-Shin. In the beginning, we didn’t know what appropriate questions we should ask Chef A-Shin. With Ms. Yang’s assistance, we were able to create many interesting questions for the interview. During the interview, Chef A-Shin kindly answered our questions and briefly introduced his jobs in the kitchen. After the interview, we practiced the serving skills in the restaurant. We learned what to say and how to bow to customers when they entered and left the restaurant. We also needed to remember the ingredients of the meals. It was very difficult for us to remember all the details in the menu. Then we invited the students from Ci-Sain Elementary School to have lunch in the restaurant, and we served them. My partner Edward was sick, so he couldn’t speak clearly. I helped him to introduce the menu to the students. We all had fun and made a great team. After they had the lunch, we interviewed Mr. Yang, the owner of Din Tai Fung. He was so kind to us during the interview. He answered our questions and let us know many interesting stories about Din Tai Fung. I obtained a lot of knowledge from this research project. I also knew many secret stories about Din Tau Fung. I learned the steps of doing a professional research project. I hoped I could have more opportunities to join this kind of competition in the future. |
