I have learnt a lot from it          Monica
Joining the school’s gifted math club has given me the chance to participate in 2012 Taiwan Schools CyberFair. Why did we choose the topic “Din Tai Fung?” That was because almost every student had been to Din Tai Fung. We thought it was a great restaurant, and we wanted to know more about it.
In this year’s Taiwan Schools CyberFair competition, our school team was divided into seven small groups. Two people were in a group. Fortunately, I’m with my best friend Kelly Huang. Together we interviewed Manager Hu, chefs, staff and the most important character – Mr. Yang. After the interviews, I found out that everyone in Din Tai Fung was all really nice. They were just like the most familiar strangers I had ever seen.
When we were in the 101 branch, Alex and Jasmine temporary joined our group. I thought our group was the luckiest six-graders. Why would I have this kind of idea? It’s because one of our interviewee is a high-level chef. So we were the first group of students who went into the kitchen. Not only that, the chefs also taught us how to make Din Tai Fung’s dumplings. Making dumplings were hard but fun and interesting.
Our whole class also visited Din Tai Fung’s central kitchen and pretended to be a waiter to entertain the customers. Kelly and I had learnt how to service the customers. We learned how to pour tea, add gingers on the plates, how to protect customers’ jackets and bags and lots of other things. Among all of the serving skills, I thought to smile constantly was the hardest thing. Facing many strangers with a smile, don’t you think it’s a silly thing to do? But I knew it was very important.
After 270 hours, everyone had completed their works for 2012 Taiwan Schools CyberFair. The process of creating a great website was a hard and painful work. However, I have learnt a lot from it and I think it is all worth it!
